Zogby Poll: Over 70 Million American Adults Support New 9/11 Investigation

(PRWEB) - Utica, NY (PRWEB) May 22, 2006 -- Although the Bush administration continues to exploit September 11 to justify domestic spying, unprecedented spending and a permanent state of war, a new Zogby poll reveals that less than half of the American public trusts the official 9/11 story or believes the attacks were adequately investigated.

911Truth.org Urges 2006 Reform Candidates to Recognize a Powerful New Constituency

The poll is the first scientific survey of Americans' belief in a 9/11 cover up or the need to investigate possible US government complicity, and was commissioned to inform deliberations at the June 2~4 "9/11: Revealing the Truth, Reclaiming Our Future" conference in Chicago. Poll results indicate 42% believe there has indeed been a cover up (with 10% unsure) and 45% think "Congress or an International Tribunal should re-investigate the attacks, including whether any US government officials consciously allowed or helped facilitate their success" (with 8% unsure). The poll of American residents was conducted from Friday, May 12 through Tuesday, May 16, 2004. Overall results have a margin of sampling error of +/- 2.9. All inquiries about questions, responses and demographics should be directed to Zogby International.

According to Janice Matthews, executive director of 911truth.org, "To those who have followed the mounting evidence for US government involvement in 9/11, these results are both heartening and frankly quite amazing, given the mainstream media's ongoing refusal to cover the most critical questions of that day. Our August 2004 Zogby poll of New Yorkers showed nearly half believe certain US officials 'consciously' allowed the attacks to happen and 66% want a fresh investigation, but these were people closest to the tragedy and most familiar with facts refuting the official account. This revelation that so many millions nationwide now also recognize a 9/11 cover up and the need for a new inquiry should be a wake up call for all 2006 political candidates hoping to turn this country around. We think it also indicates Americans are awakening to the larger pattern of deceit that led us into Constitutional twilight and endless war, and that our independent media may have finally come of age."

Poll co-author, W. David Kubiak concurs, saying: "Despite years of relentless media promotion, whitewash and 9/11 Commission propaganda, the official 9/11 story still can't even muster 50% popular support. Since this myth has been the administration's primary source of political and war-making power, this level of distrust has revolutionary implications for everyone working for peace, justice and civil liberties. If we ever hope to reclaim this country, end aggression and restore international respect, we all must finally scrutinize that day when things started to go so terribly wrong. The media and movement leaders ignore this call at their peril, because tens of millions are clearly telling us here they are ready for 9/11 truth."

SCOPE: The poll covered five related areas: 1) Iraq - do Americans think the Bush administration exploited 9/11 to attack Iraq? (44% do, 44% don't); 2) Cover up - did the government and its 9/11 Commission conceal or refuse to investigate evidence that contradicts their official story? (only 48% said no); 3) the collapse of WTC 7, which was not even mentioned by the 9/11 Commission and has seldom been reported in the media---had respondents been aware of this collapse and, if so, did they think it should be investigated (only 52% had known about it, but over 70% of this group believe it should have been investigated); 4) new investigation of official complicity - do respondents think we need one? (only 48% said no); and 5) mass media - how do people rate its performance, including its coverage of alternative 9/11 theories, unanswered questions and inquiry issues? (43% rate it positively, 55% negatively).

(The poll sponsors see knowledge of the collapse of World Trade Center Building 7 as a bellwether issue, because if people do not know this elementary fact, they have probably not been exposed to any independent 9/11 research at all. Because the number of respondents who support a new investigation of 9/11 (45%)) is roughly the same as the number who knew about the collapse of Building 7 (52%), it can reasonably be extrapolated that if the entire public were exposed to independent 9/11 research, about 90 percent would support a new investigation of the events of that fateful day.)

SPONSOR: 911truth.org is a coalition of researchers, journalists and victim family members working to expose and answer the hundreds of still unresolved questions concerning 9/11, especially the nearly 400 questions that the Family Steering Committee filed with the 9/11 Commission. Initially welcomed by the commissioners as their "road map," these queries cut to the heart of 9/11 crimes and accountability, specifically raising the central issues of motive, means and cui bono (who profited?). The Commission ultimately ignored 80% of these issues, however, opting only to explore system failures, miscommunications and incompetence. The victim families' most incisive questions remain unaddressed to this day.

    * Numerical computations conservatively based on 2000 Census data citing 174 million Americans between the ages of 18 and 64.

Survey Methodology: Zogby America, 5/12/06 through 5/16/06

This is a telephone survey of adults nationwide conducted by Zogby International. The target sample is 1,200 interviews with approximately 81 questions asked. Samples are randomly drawn from telephone cd’s of national listed sample. Zogby International surveys employ sampling strategies in which selection probabilities are proportional to population size within area codes and exchanges. As many as six calls are made to reach a sampled phone number. Cooperation rates are calculated using one of AAPOR’s approved methodologies1 and are comparable to other professional public-opinion surveys conducted using similar sampling strategies.2 Weighting by region, party, age, race, religion, and gender is used to adjust for non-response. The margin of error is +/- 2.9 percentage points. Margins of error are higher in sub-groups.

Zogby International’s sampling and weighting procedures also have been validated through its political polling: more than 95% of the firm’s polls have come within 1% of actual election-day outcomes.

Looks like the tides are turning huh? Now if only these 70 million tell just one more person each and we're at around 150 million.:O

Incredible what people can do given the mass media outlets have pratically blacked out the truth seekers all this time.

This is a huge step for the truth movement which has become a REAL movement now. History is changing and I am glad to see it all go down.

yours isn't a truth movement. if that was the case you would be looking for answers, not conspiracies.

you wouldn't be spewing all this nonsense, claiming it as fact. yours is a movement of mis/disinformation, shouting loudly whilst refusing to listen.

    70 MILLION GOING STRONG!

If that is not ground breaking news which the media cannot refuse to hide this time round I dont know what will wake you up.

    Conspiracies exist inherently without "answers"?

    That's an opinion.

The "truth movement" is all about conspiracies. Just read their website.

The fact that Bush may have exploited 9/11 to justify an invasion of Iraq or the fact that many details of 9/11 may have been covered up does not imply the government was complicit in the terrorist attacks. Yet the "truth movement" is certainly making these very accusations when it talks about missiles hitting the Pentagon or explosives being planted to bring down the WTC buildings.

I'd like to see a poll which asks a very direct question -- Some say the government failed to adequately respond to the terrorist attacks. Others say the government was complicit in aiding or allowing the terrorist attacks to happen. Who are you more likely to agree with?

There is no sense in pussy-footing around this basic question.

Do you mean that they failed to adequately respond to the threat of terrorist attacks? In other words, intelligence services were lazy and got burned, rather than a deliberate attempt to ignore/encourage the attacks.

There's a grey area between "failed to respond" and "allowed the attacks to happen". And in a lot of cases, Bush is given the benefit of the doubt towards the former because of his apparent stupidity. A stupidity that isn't necessarily shared by others at the top levels of his administration.

The Bush administration had fair warning that something was coming, and still did nothing even as it was reported the attacks were happening. So while some might argue that it was incompetence, it would be incompetence to a degree of criminality.

The fact that they did nothing and refused to do anything despite all indications would at minimal make them criminally negligent. However, a wider scope of understanding (PNAC, plans for regime change, the PATRIOT ACT, increased militarization, massive intelligence funding boosts) would at least allow for the investigation into whether or not the attacks were intentionally ignored for political gain.

    BULLSHIT!!!!

Sorry I know some of the people on this forum dislike me using that term. If %45 of people polled think it should be re-investigated and they count this as 70,000,000 this means that they had to poll 155 million people or half of the US population.

No possible way this number 70 million is utter bullshit. even at less than 1 minute per call using 100 people to call out this would have taken 3 years working 24/7.

this number has to be bullshit.

yeah but they don't claim to speak for the extrapilated masses. 70,000,000 is a completely subjective number with nothing to suggest it has any reality to it.

Well if I was an American looking back on the last few years, stolen presidency, seeing 9/11, Bush making a case for war in Afghanistan and then Iraq, not catching bin Laden, found lying about his reasons for going to war, fucking up the reaction to New Orleans, getting caught in lie after lie, I don't think it's unreasonable to think that a good portion of Americans at least suspect something more about 9/11. At this point it doesnt' even take a stretch of the imagination.

It is real, the Zogby polls are accurate within 1-3 percent across the board. They are going to have another one soon to reaffirm it because results may vary depending on the time they are given these polls and peoples moods.

These polls are accurate, I am thinking the number is closer to 100 million for the USA alone. In other countries the percentages are better for 9/11 truth. I tend to think its because their media covers the stories a lot better. In Italy they just completed a poll and they are at 40% of the population.

The official 9/11 story will NOT hold up much longer.

There is a real movement now and it is getting stronger by the second. What started out as an idea because a mere few wanted some answers has turned into the largest snowball effect in history.

Someone will have to answer to us when we come knocking on their doors this time around. The truth shall prevail.

And what has the potential to hold this kind of investigation back is the extreme hyperbole on the part of some of it's supporters.

I doubt it, I am just excited because I know this movement will win. I may come across in ways most others may not agree with but hey if I cared what everyone thought of me I would have given up 5 years ago on the matter.

Forgive me if I get emotional and tend to get past myself when I post, I speak from the heart which is something these days that people seem to look over quite easily.

yeah because the heart doesn't make logical choices it makes emotional ones.

If you can't make the argument without resorting to 'feelings' and 'emotions' then your argument isn't ready.

You obviously dont understand, I already know the truth movement will win. I am emotional that for almost 5 years I have been plugging away and it is becoming reality.

I fear reality is something you cannot get a grip on. Your still trying to calculate how all these things still happened when your heart told all you all along that it was wrong. Maybe thats why your still here, trying to rid yourself of the confusion thats boiling inside you.

Step out of yourself for a second and think about it. The importance of emotion played the biggest role in all of this movement. If no one "cared" then the official story would have held up.

Unfortunately for you and the governments some people (more like 90% of the fukin planet) know how to listen to their emotions and look within to know the truth.

There is no figuring out what happened, we all know the difference between right and wrong, good and evil and you my friend are wrong.

they polled 1200 people and reported the opinions of 70,000,000.

what the hell do you expect me to say on this one. even the questions are worded in a way that makes quebec referendum questions look clear.

I'm sorry its a joke poll, there isn't going to be another investigation and the best chance you have is an Oliver stone flick in 20 years after he's been caught mollesting children and needs to rebuild credibility.

If you think a poll of 1200 people is going to open a second multi billion dollar investigation your bat shit insane.
