I wanna buy real works though. Not posterized duplicates or whatever.
Looking for work of the Gothic nature, dark, eerie, deep, haunting type things.
Alot of black, browns and reds.

I've looked on the internet for artists of this nature but I'm having trouble finding such works.

Anyone have any suggestions?
Or work of their own I could see ?

thanks,
Jaimie-lyn

it's 18"x24" Acrylic, Ink on paper framed.

He could probably paint you something similar for a little less.

You've gotta be fucking kidding me.

I never understood this about art... yes, it's art and all.

But $1000 for that?!

Honestly I never really get it either, I always tell him to put his prices down. My ideology is that I'd rather sell it for a little less and get way more exposure. But my roomates has sold quite a few peices at that price so.. nut still in my mind he's so missing out on sales.

And it wasn't directed at him or the quality of his work, etc...

I just never understood it. Same goes for these pieces that go for millions, etc...

It's like my photographs, I never expect people to pay me for them... getting them published and exposure is what it's all about IMO. I could care less.

But then again I'm the guy who'd DJ and expect nothing more than a thanks and maybe some drinks on the house... ;)

Peronsally, I'd just go out and buy some nice Giger Prints and get them mounted properly and it'd be a lot cheaper ;)

First, the gallery usually gets half.

Then, costs for materials and prep for a medium sized oil painting on canvas can easily run up to $500.

So, right away, the artist is getting nothing, even though they are charging $1000.

If you wish to pay the artist a fair wage for their work, it's gonna cost you.

If an artist drops their price too much, no one will buy, becauase they will think the art is no good. That's just the way the art market works.

The best way to get cheapish original art is to check out charity auctions, the Nathan Philips Square outdoor art exhibit in summer, cafes etc.

Or, just paint something yourself!

Also, forget about making an investment. At this level you have virtually no chance of making any money in the future - the only reason to buy is because you really like the image.

Cheers,
Paul
