I have been the last 2 years.

You can expect to be completely drained. To spend roughly $1200 - $1500. To see some amazing DJ's perform in intimate venues. To drink a lot. To pay a lot to drink. A lot of fake tits. A lot of nice cars. A lot of walking.

The last two years have been completely different timing wise. Last year was over 2 weeks. The year before was over one week. You have to book your hotel and flights in January/Early February and you won't know any of the events till late. Some you can guess at by checking the DJ's home pages.

I have gone for 5 days both times. And let me tell you, after 5 days, you will be ruined. If you are like me, and like to dance, its a test. Cause there are endless amounts of parties from about noon till about 5am. And if you go over to Miami and hit up space, you can party round the clock.

What else you want to know?

-4 years running
-expect to get very little sleep, spend a great deal of money, and be run throught the clubbing wringer.
-it's like a 5 day vacation from reality, 24 hour partying with people just like you from all over the world

The dates are always changing, and last year they tacked another 3 days of events on to the end as part of the M3 conference? There's always confusion over what's happening when. The parties are 24hrs non-stop for the duration. My advice is to plan for something like a wednesday to Sunday or Monday. That'll let you really go on a tear, and give you recovery time assuming you start to slow down around the Subliminal Party with a soft landing over the last 6 hours Tenaglia.

Be careful about the last two days. People start to leave and leftovers starts to collect and you just feel obligated... :p

ya, i'm just wondering in terms of booking a hotel/condo - and if i could plan on going for a whole 7 days. if Detroit was any indication (I'm sure the after-parties in Miami will be waaaay better) i can take a guestimate at how much partying i'll be doing.

it sounds expensive and i'm not a fan of Miami. i love to party but i do a crapload of it in my "normal" life and don't particularly need to take a vacation to do tons of it.

lol at the weekend leftovers... the jury's still out. i think i'd rather go lay in the sun in Cancun for a week.

then again, Josh's review sounds pretty fuckin cool.
ah shit. i dunno...

I'll say this. If you can afford to go, do it. Its an awesome experience.

I went with Aussie Paul, and I talked to him after he had went to Ibizia this year, and he said Miami was the better event from a music/crowd perspective.

All this talk kind of makes me want to go back.

haha … charming :D

I'm feeling a little curious about going. I could definitely dance warm nights away -- in the Om tent? perhaps! -- but, first question: if I once had a crap night at a certain large local Toronto club, and even though my top dj was playing, do you think I would cringe at WMC security? I'm afraid it's hard to dig testosterone-overloaded security. Is there a lot of that there?

A little respect for the fans of dance/electronica. Peace.

i haven't had any kinds of issues w/ security @ WMC although the Miami Music Conf overlaps some of the days and some clubs/parties are more urban-centric prior to turning to dance/electronica.

well, you can imagine the 2 worlds colliding

The Winter Music Conference is kinda over-rated, but yet I still end up going each year...

This is why every year after WMC is over I say I'm going to go, but when it's time to think about flights/hotels/etc I can't bring myself to cough up the cash.

I thought about it for next year as it's probably the last yr I could go for quite a few years if I go back to school, and I think I'd rather just book a week off and do demf/mutek.

also, I have no doubt I would come home more broken than I could possibly prepare myself for.

ah, man you should come down for sure, I'm sure Bonero won't have a problem with you sleeping on top of him.
