i'm willing to bet that the masses in attendance at the LOTR marathons today will create such a wicked stench that it will ensure a green christmas across the globe.

odds: 5:1

I've seen two predictions...

108.1 & 109.3

what did spiderman rake in on its opening weekend ? something like 119 ?

patrick

"Spider-Man" surpassed all expectations by doing an astounding $114, 844,116 at the box office over its first three days of release. Predictions for the opening weekend had ranged from $60-70 million, but no prognosticators even came within webslinging distance of the real figure.

Spider Man is a two hour film though, it can be shown in a single theatre 5 times in a day.

LOTR is three hours plus, which limits it to about three screenings a day.

Factor in xmas shopping and the obligations, don't think it'll do as well as those predictions.

Wasn't Spiderman released on a Holiday weekend too? That is a heavy factor to consider. Sad how a movie so crappy holds these records, but then again Britney Spears is a really popular person. Apparently, she has a music career too.

3 hour movies rarely do that well on an opening weekend, espeically before the Christmas holliday.

No to 100, I'd guess 45-50.

Thu $22,232,970
Wed $39,463,305

You cine-snobs aren't thinking. Do you think they would release it on this weekend to see it do 40-50 mil? I think not. These things are very calculated. People will go to see it either before or after shopping, or with their friends because everyone's on holidays, etc etc. It'll EASILY get to 100 mil.

not only that... it's the FINAL CHAPTER! everyone is going to go and see it this weekend before all the spoilers are 'common knowledge'. Nobody wants to be the last to know. ;)

I'm sticking with my original guess. approx. 120 million

i wonder if box office success will spur hollywood filmmakers to do imitation "LOTR" type movies?

and if so, will they base them on books or come up with their own stories?

if they base them on books, what books will they base them on?

i've heard that peter jackson might do "the hobbit", but that books lacks the epic grandeur of LOTR...

speculation, anyone?

ps. my guess is 120.000001 million :p

didn't it make 8 mil in the opening midnight showings alone?

i know at one of the theatres here it was sold out
from thursday to friday all showings.... that was in
the Bible Belt of the Midwest USA, too... so it has
to be doing equally well elsewhere...

edit: i guess SPiderman took in 104 mil the first weekend....

wow, i didn't know shit was like that...
