...cause there really should be one... anyways checkout:

http://www.blackalicious.com/

there new album comes out on April 30th

If you like the conscious hip hop then make sure you add this to your soon to buy list of records or cds.

I really hope r.e.m.g. brings em back to do a show soon... that would definitely make my summer complete.

Not the best I have heard... but I definitely like them a lot :)
especially because there hasn't been much hip hop I have really been digging lately...

has anyone else noticed the MAJOR decline?

anyway... I'm looking forward to it :)

according to my sources, Blackalicious was supposed to be playing a show with Kweli at the Opera House in early may... i haven't heard anything about it in a while though, so maybe it got nixed.

*pouring some Alize out for my dead homie Winnipeg*

hip hop room is needed, unless people start talking about Ja Rule and all that terribleness

OGC? Boot Camp Click? EricB and Rakim? Jungle Brothers? Aceyalone? Jurassic 5?

arent there toronto centric hip hop boards in existance??

maybe its just me but i dont like how the rave lifestyle has to include the hip hop life style.
yes i know some of electronic music roots are traced back to hip hop or share the same roots or what not, but you rarely ever see the hip hop community giving respect to the electronic music culture.

boo urns i says!

bring on the jazz room!

I completely agree.....except for the jazz part

before you know it, people are gonna be asking for a *folk* room and a *polka* room etc. etc. etc.

SOMEONE BRING ON THE SIMPSONS ROOM!!!!

plato... i'd say there's a huge number of people in this city who support and have love for both scenes... the lines in the sand that have seperated entities (especially amongst the soul/ deep house/ hip-hop scenes & the dn'b/hip-hop scenes) are getting blurrier and that's good, cause dope music is dope music.

but i know what you're saying... probably most people on this board don't want to read about hip-hop... alas, i tried to make winnipeg the mecca of hip-hop so "tribe genereal stuff" readers wouldn't have to be exposed to scary rap music... didn't work though.

to me it just feels like the message being given is that the techno/electronic scene isnt a stable enough one, that its fleeting, so it has to latch on to the most simmilar scene that has gained mainstream acceptance and isnt going to dissapear; hip-hop.

so its like its using it as a crutch.

i see promoters, parties, and message boards and magazines that dont incorporate hip hop not as saying "it sucks uber-ass! boo!" no no, not a disrespectful thing, but rather saying that this is a stable scene and we are confident in our own culture that we can survive.

maybe its just me though..

here's my opnion....

yes, it does seem to be getting blurrier, but thats not due to the relation, its due to the fusing of genres, i.e. trance and euro.

Not that I know the history or anything but from the beginning, Tribe seems to have based itself on a strict dichotomy between Electronic music apart from everything else. I just think it should stay that way, because before you know it.....Tribe will be like the Toronto edition of rolling stone.

P.S. im not against hip hop.

I like what I refer to as the *purer* forms of hip hop i.e. RUN DMC, A tribe called quest, De La Soul.

Most hip hop these days seems to project a negative image, and its all about the bling bling

Canadian hip hop seems to be sending out a positive message as well.
