why do Americans boo our national Anthem?

Seriously, they did in during the basketball game and last night during the Islanders/Leafs game.

Last night, they booed our anthem and them about halfway through the crowd broke out into a USA chant. Come on we didn't bomb your buildings and Canada's halping fight your war. Why is it American's have no tact or shame whatsoever?

Sorry but we never boo that song and dance you call a national anthem. Please don't wonder why countries are anti American cause actions like these should explain why. Basketball and Hockey are Canadian games please don't forget that.

I guess Canadian's in Vancouver returned the favour... so they're not much better than the Americans doing the same.

It makes for a heated rivalry... but it's kind of ironic because it's not like Canadian teams are just Canadian players, or vice versa for the Americans.

this must be a new phenomenon, cause i've never heard of or seen this before. i would understand it if WE killed their soldiers, but this is absolutely ridiculous. it makes me wanna go postal on their asses..

i wish people would stop bitching about this..

who fucking cares how they act? we all know they are ignorant idiots, that has been discussed at nauseum..

think of it this way.
if every state had a "state anthem", and say new jersey and new york islanders met in a game would you expect the home team to boo the other's state anthem?? I WOULD!
it's no different when a canadian team and an american team meet in a hockey game.

I suspect it has something to do with winning 2 golds in hockey at the Winter Olympics?!

I wouldn't know though. Not much of a hockey fan.

Go Raps!

and all this talk about them killing our soldiers.. it was wrong, and someone should pay for it.. but don't expect that they are booing us because of that, or that they should show us any more respect because of it..
guaranteed, more than half of americans don't even know it happened..

I think they should stop playing the national anthems unless its a championship series. They don't play the anthem at concerts or anywhere else. Why overkill it?

As a side note I heard a report that Vancouver and Montreal fans couldn't keep a minute silence to honour those soldiers that were killed. They were cheering throughout the whole thing.

As much as I dispise hearing about yanks dissing our anthem, we have the same yahoos in our own backyard who do the same thing.

It really isn't anything new, though.

I've heard "U~S~A" chants during the Canadian anthem before playoff games for years. I don't mind that so much, but the booing is a little more disrespectful.

BBB.

PS Kyfe, they're really booing you.

Well ...

I don't think sports fans in general have ever really been the pinnacle of maturity and diplomacy in the world. We're talking about people who will start a riot because a bunch of guys in a certain coloured jersey did not score as many goals as another bunch of guys in a different coloured jersey.

Why do sports take ¼ of almost every so-called legitimate newspaper or news broadcast? Is it really news of significance? Altho playoffs do get a little more exciting, I think there are larger issues to be involved with... Some ppl are just too obsessed with their teams.

thanks BBB;)

Adrian, we are not talking about soccer:D , the Vancouver thing was in retaliation and is just as lame. The national anthem is part of sporting heritage and is done to show respect to the home and visiting teams originating countries.

I think we don't hear our national anthem enough! It's a beautiful song and gives me shivers everytime i hear it. Regardless of where your from, be proud of who you are, but remember you should give people from other nations the same respect. hockey and basketball are not the Canada vs US they are team vs team and like it was said earlier most of those players are from other countries and do not hear their anthem before these games.

Props to Mats Sundin for standing proud and singing along, while O' Canada was being played, thats the kind of respect I'm talking about. Politics should not flood over into sport.

I think Grapes said it best last night in regards to the Vancouver fans talking and cheering during the whole tribute to our recently fallen soliders. Absolutely deporable, and disgusting.

The Canadian's in Vancouver were doing the same thing during the U.S. anthem. Don't beat yourself up over it. ;)

I find it stupid that a whole nation can be held accountable (by some people) for the actions of about 20 000 people in an arena, on any given night.

So they had a bunch of dicks in the stands that day/night. I don't think it should be a national issue.
We, as canadians should quit being so sensitive about it.

Was it the booing of the national anthem that made the toronto players "mail-in" their game 3 performance. No, I don't think so.

Why the fuck do they play the national anthems before every game anyways???

I think it is somewhat relevant that both Canadian/Americans are being disrespectful, it has happended in 3 different arenas all with games getting national coverage (reason for the national anthem).
Like I said earlier, I like our national anthem I don't think it's an issue of why are they playing it, but why is no one addressing the fact fans are booing it and creating hostility (on a social level) towards people from another country. It's one thing to boo a team but i don't find it necessary for there to be a Canada/USA rivalry. I know it's only the fans in the arena booing but it reflects badly on our country and the USA as a whole and I feel sends the wrong message to our neighbours, its not part of the game to slag another country(maybe a team, but not a country)...
