I have been looking around and cannot find much to meet my needs.

I want 5.1 (because my receiver does not have 7.1)
reasonable price (max $300)

that's about it, I would appreciate any help.

you can get these

for $99. regular $250 at www.thesourcecc.ca
the towers each have a built in 8" woofer.

they also have a new model in black that can handle 100wpc (as opposed to 80wpc that the ones on sale handle) for $299

I just did some research on these and they don't sound half bad. Especially with the price.

if you're near scarborough, the 2001 audio/video clearance center on kennedy usually has good deals.
it's on kennedy road, just north of ellesmere (south of the 401)

I have your answer and I managed to do better than $300

audiovision plus 905-660-1783

they have the entry level Sony 5.1 surround for $88
5 speakers and a sub

the 1000 watt system w/DVD player is only $388

I have the HDMi wireless system and I love it but it was much more expensive than 3 bills

anyway I don't think you could go wrong with either one

a sony 5.1 speaker package for $88 is not going to sound any better than the speakers i suggested for $99 ( they'll probably sound worse since they are not doubt little drivers inside tiny little plastic enclosures).

neither is a complete home theatre system that costs $388. for that money not only are you getting crapy sounding speakers but a crappy dvd player and a crappy digital amp.

case sensitive: there are also KLH bookshelves online at "radioshack". they might be a bit better than the centrios. you might also want to check out discount electronics stores.
factory direct has a package including powered sub for $89.

Go to StudioLab, talk to John Venditti, he will be glad to show you the differences between speakers.. You should see the types of speakers that people trade in to get the StudioLabs.. They are incredible speakers...

I don't know how you are able to draw this conclusion without knowing which model they are, both of these are last years model so they are heavily discounted the first one retailed for about $300 at futureshop and the other about $600 my set was about $1300 and I paid about $500 for it on boxing day and I am very happy with them.

for the record it's not the size of the speaker.... it's the quality of the speaker. I can show you 6 inch subs that'll blow your mind (Focal) also many 5.1 home theatre systems are not housed in large enclosures.
