probably Acid.
fundamentally, they are all the same. once you learn one, you can eek your way through others.
Im sure you'll get a better reply in here eventually.

fruity loops is a great program to learn on...its also quite powerful so you can progress into some pretty cool stuff.

10 million votes for ableton.

a kid could use it, and it can do everything the others can do, plus much much more.

...and there's a messageboard full of people who will answer all of your tech questions.

www.ableton.com

seriously. it fucking OWNS.

Reason or Ableton.

not only are they good for just starting out, but they're used by professionals the world over.

they're two totally different styles though.

personally, i want to marry Reason, and perhaps bear its children, though Live may be my mistress.. i just don't know it well enough yet.

why not

I have Abelton already... but have found it kind of difficult to use... then again I've never bothered to do any sort of tutorial or anything for it.

I would say Fruity Loops, but its simplicity is endearing and breeds laziness (in my situation anyway). I would go for Reason. Hands fooking down///////////

If you want to know it spend a few $$$ and have Mike Goodwin show you how to use it...

i have a course available with ebooks, samples, and ableton templates if you are interested.

...for example, here is how to juggle a record by automating the clips with midi: http://www.ableton.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=33790

you can program juggles and mixes, save them as midi files, and then can have robo q-bert tear shit up at the touch of a button.

well fuck, do the tutorials, or pay me to show you what to do.

ableton is the simplest full fledged production software, so if you can't figure it out, you're pretty much screwed.
