i have this humongous crush on this girl at my gym and finally decided to say hello yesterday.

so i went up to her and said "hello my name is jake" and stuck out my hand.

she proceeded to look at it for 3 seconds before shaking it and saying her name.

i asked where she was from and that was that.

my question is: am i an idiot if i talk to her again after she made it look like she had no interest in shaking my hand? if i dont then dont i look like an idiot if indeed she is interested but is simply playing games?

next time you see her- make eye contact and base your position solely on that- if she smiles, then good. if she looks away then bad- for 2 reasons- she may not be interested/already have a boyfriend/etc. or she is playing games- and you don't need it.

Women get hit on all the time, maybe she was just assessing the situation.
Girls these days have to be careful there lots of losers out there and they're usually the ones with balls to talk to a lady.
When a fine upstanding individual such as yourself walks up, it's always hoped for but rarely happens so she may not have known what to make of it..... Thus the 3 second stare.

if you went up to her at the gym, chances are she might not have wanted to shake your hand because your/her hand was sweaty and gross. you see the amount of effort people take in cleaning off teh equipment before using them.

try again next time, but go into the shower and talk to her in there. at least you'll be clean.

most my friends said i was toast because of the "elaine benes" theory that states: women dont go to gyms to be picked up.

BUT alot of women say theyre tired of the bar scene and a gym is different in that sense cuz there is no expectation there.

at least i didnt say anything dumb and just said hello which she might have been surprised at.

ahh whatever at least i can enjoy this week while i'm in cuba knowing at least i trried instead of wondering.

I've heard both of these statements a lot too. But I think the general apprehension that you experienced might have been out of surprise/slight intimidation. It takes balls these days to pull something like that, and is an uncommon, but very sensible approach. At the present time, we're locked in to a mating dance ritual that just plain sucks, offers mixed messages, and strikes me as just plain stupid and pretentious. Don't be too irked by her caution, she was probably a little unsure as to what to do.

Yeah, i dont think women like to be picked up at the gym, but if you wanted to get to know her you didnt have to be so direct with an introduction out of no where. try doing the same excercises around her and mention how you like the burn your lats feel on this so and so machine.

I've noticed a few girls at my gym too, but never bothered with an approach mainly because, i would hate to create an awkward environment if i was every shot down.
