I went to Davisville station around 8:25 and there were firetrucks and tons of people coming out of the station. There was an announcement that there was no service between _____ (couldn't hear) - what happened? I didn't go into the station...just walked to Eg and took the bus from there.

that would explain the zillions of people waiting to go southbound at st. george. they crowd extended all the way over to the northbound side.

luckily still very few people needed to go north.

something about a fire at College I think, all clear now. But still a back-log of people. Forced Mongo to take a cab to work. Should have walked but I feared the "extra" cardio would have cut into and forced canabilization of my muscle density.

I saw it on breakfast television this morning.

Apparently there was a small explosion causing a small fire...mostly smoke and panic.

Only one person was injured due to the panicking sheep trying to force themselves out of the train, and a couple of people treated for smoke inhalation.

3 injured in TTC subway fire

CURTIS RUSH
STAFF REPORTER THESTAR.COM

Two people were sent to hospital for smoke inhalation and another suffered a broken arm in the panic to escape a fire at the College subway station this morning.
The Toronto Fire Department said it appears the fire started when the subway train went over a piece of metal, causing it to hit the third rail and fill the station with smoke.

“What we believe at this time is that it was one of the metal slats that we use in station ceilings that are about four inches wide,” said Marilyn Bolton, spokesperson for the Toronto Transit Commission.

“We believe one of them may have been jogged loose and fallen down to the track level and that may have been the source.”

People travelling the subway lines were told that they would have to transfer to shuttle buses if they wanted to continue their journey.

“It was scary. We didn’t know what it was,” a witness told CityPulse 24. “You saw a lot of fire and smoke and people were pushing,” she said.

Abdul Lalani, the owner of the Gateway Newstand at the Yonge and College subway stop, was just opening up his stall at around 7:30 this morning when he heard “something that sounded like an explosion.”

A couple of minutes later, he heard a second explosion.

“Then all of a sudden people were running around everywhere. Hundreds of people. Everyone was in a panic. I closed up and left. There were a lot of people screaming. And I saw two or three ladies crying. I think they had inhaled smoke. Firemen took them out.”

Damn. Should have come into work early today! :D

The station was fine when I dragged my lazy ass through it at 10:00. Didn't even realize there had been a problem. Last night on the other hand I was stranded for almost 30 minutes waiting for a "disabled train" to move at Davisville. I was so close to Bloor station and the Danforth line I could smell it.

I've never seen as many people as I did this morning on the platform of Bloor station, at 8:45. I heard before I left the house about some problem at Coollege, but I transfer onto the bloor-Danforth line to go over to Bay, and even that was held up?
