What *inexpensive* video cameras are worth looking at?

I'm looking for a video camera that records higher than 30 fps. This is for when I need to play the video in slow motion.

Any ideas?

subject matter might be useful in the decision... what are you trying to capture?

Golf Swings and RC car. Quality doesn't have the be the best on playback, I just want to make sure there is a lot of frames for when the video is played in slow motion.

Me too! Totally new to video cameras. Compact is ideal for my situation (shooting some scenes for a documentary short).

The $200 Gopro does 60fps at 720p which is HD quality. The $400 gopro does 720p at 120fps or if you are willing to lower quality to WVGA it does 240fps.

I'm almost thinking I have to get the BLACK edition ($400). I think if you slowed down a golf swing to say 1/4 speed, the video might be choppy. Can anyone confirm that specific detail?

maybe ask a specific golf forum as you'll probably get tonnes of experience since recording swings is very popular now

if you search "golf swing gopro" on youtube you'll get lots of examples of vids people have posted using that hardware. same goes for the other cameras. try it and see which results you like best.

Looks like the best option is to sell my current Digital camera and then pick up a nice one. Instead of having the mediocre digi and sports camera, I'm going to just have one really nice one for both.

Probably picking up the Canon Elph 310 HS for $300.

It boasts about slow-motion:

Super Slow Motion Movie
The Super Slow Motion Movie mode* on the PowerShot ELPH 310 HS gives you a fun and useful option when shooting videos. It records video clips at a very high speed - up to approximately 240 frames per second. When the clips are played at normal speed (30 fps), the action is dramatically slower. This video shooting mode can be used to capture memorable plays at sporting events or to analyze and study motion.

I watched a golf swing with this camera and looks like you need 240 fps (maybe 120 fps) as a minimum to watch it the way you want. I don't think 60 fps cuts it.

Take a look here!

Thanks for all the help everyone!
