promoters all over are now considering daytime events. due to unrelenting pressure from authorities (politicians, police, media), it seems that no matter what people do to make electronic music parties legitimate in the eyes of the powers that be, as soon as they overcome one hurdle, new ones pop up almost immediately.
if they can find a venue, then all of a sudden excessive pdo costs make the event impossible. if they can work out those expenses, then all of a sudden they have to deal with permit issues, union fees, threats of getting shut down for noise complaints, surprise injunctions, etc.
no matter how much progress the scene makes, there will ALWAYS be a stigma attached to all-night parties that will make certain events - especially large-scale events at one-shot venues - extremely difficult to pull off successfully.
enter the daytime party.
this is happening more and more often now. check this site out for an upcoming party in NYC - running from 12 noon to 12 midnight on a saturday: http://www.stuckonearth.com/
my question is: do you think events like this would work in toronto?
do you think people would go? do you think it would attract a different crowd? is this the way of the future or are high profile events like this better off extinct?
would you attend WEMF or OM if the music ran from 12 noon to 12 midnight?
