What can I use to recover files on a 1TB NTFS drive?

Staff member
I had a windows vista (ya, I know) boot disk that suddenly would hang at the black screen and reboot itself. In safe mode I could see that it was hanging at crcdisk.sys and then re-booting.

So I pulled out the drive and replaced it with a new one. I am trying to recover the files on it.

I figured plugging it into a one of those usb hard drive caddies and accessing it from another computer might work, but no luck, it is not recognized by Windows 7.

I tried running Spinrite on it in recovery mode (which usually works on anything) but it is hanging at 11% .

Is there any other kind of software I can use to extract files from it? There are some files on there I would really like to have.
