Is there a civil remedy for sexual assault cases that have passed the statute of limitations? There’s obviously a civil liability - beyond criminal guilt - for murder (OJ). I sincerely hope it exists for sexual harassment and abuse as well.

Weinstein and his ilk deserve a free-fall to the financial bottom. It’s money that gives these assholes power. The most sure-fire way of encouraging a change in attitude is the wholesale economic dessimation of these kinds of perps. One thing they ALL cherish is a dollar.

Ontario has recently (2015 or 2016 I believe) eliminated limitation periods for civil lawsuits arising from sexual assaults. It used to be two years with some exceptions.

^ I just looked this up, out of curiosity. It appears there is no limitation period in Ontario for civil claims based on (i) sexual assault, (ii) sexual misconduct involving a minor or a trusted/dependent relationship, or (iii) non-sexual assault involving a minor or an intimate/dependent relationship.

Law Document English View
Sections 16(h), (h.1), (h.2).

Good to know!

So does this mean that a family member can sue if they were subjected to corporal punishment?

i always wondered why mira sorvino and ashley judd just all of a sudden disappeared, same with heather graham. i wonder how many women got black listed because of their refusal to cave into some fuckhats sexual assualts.

What continues to amaze me is that some of the women that are coming out and making allegations come from prominent families in the film business.

I can’t even imagine how difficult this would have been and how scared you would have been that they didn’t feel they could share this information with their family.

Or maybe they did and everyone just turned a blind eye.

Regardless hopefully justice will be served at some point and anyone that was subjected to sexual abuse and assault will one day be able to get some form of closure.

Maybe. Your hypothetical is too high level. If someone was abusive a family member can report the abuse, police and courts will then decide if the facts are commensurate with prosecution.

Sometimes they will decide so and sometimes they won't, every Canadian has the right to seek legal redress and aid if abused.

I think wickedken is asking about civil claims, not criminal prosecution. Yes, someone could sue for what he calls being subjected to corporal punishment as a minor. Whether they'd be successful or not is another question.

i would hate to be in the dating scene right about now
I know a bunch of single ladies and they all say the same thing, that the modern Toronto man had no game. If the modern Toronto man steps away from the porn/video games/excessive sports, and be somewhat witty and engaging there is gold in them there hills.
