It's an edit though.....no intro, no Bill Hicks sample....and so forth.....it's now not about the "social commentary" but all about commercialism.

    Still, it's kinda cool.

What's wrong America? The truth hurt too much?

    Interesting video, though.

my comp. isn't modern enough to download a video here at my getto cubicle. but I'll tell you one thing - that fucking song gets me dancing, and then it gets stuck in my head for weeks on end; it's a sick, sick track!

Yeah, too bad they edited out the best part though...

That Bill Hicks speech is money. It's true... America just couldn't handle the truth!

    Yeah, take that America! /sarcasm

We are all responsible for the current state of things. If it's one thing that pisses me off, it's armchair activism.

how about I punch you in the junk next time I see you shug, how's that for armchair activism?

Hey, at least you'll be doing something, instead of just complaining and pointing fingers like the rest of the huddled masses.

I got a better idea: Why don't you regularily buy Adbusters, eat vegetarian, participate in Buy Nothing Day every year, read Ralph Nader's latest book while wearing FDCO's made in a sweatshop, eating a BK veggie burger, drinking the latest Guarana energy drink, and settling down to watch the latest episode of The Restaurantâ„¢.

Or, you could punch me in the junk. That works too. Yo mamma.

I see what you're saying Hugh, but at the same time even if a simple thing like a breaks record makes people realize that the imperialist freight train that is America is cascading out of control, then well, isn't that a start?

I hate to get all media student on you but a pertinent McLuhan quote comes to mind:

At least we can agree McLuhan was a very clever man, although I would say it's gone beyond early warning system, and become an observational lament.

Now that I think about it, there was a ton of similar anti-consumer sentiment in that 80's scifi B-movie with Roddy Piper, They Live. And that was over 15 years ago.

Hey, why the fuck not? Lookit Minnesota.

I swear Nostradomus predicted the upcoming Cal gov elections as one of the warning signs of the Apocalypse.

    I'll say!

That Arnie shit has me totally scared... his dad was a nazi stormtrooper and shit, and he's running it full-on republican styles.

    Eep...

Like the average American voter in Cali is gonna think "Social Justice vs. Corporate Police State?"

    Yea right!

It's way more like: "Vote for Arnie, or not for Arnie! He's here to pomp us ahp! Ha ha ha, let's go get a soda."

Bigup the Freeland for actually making himself useful.

    And yes, armchair activism suxass.

Hee hee, ok, enough rantage for now...

  24. One of the best commentaries on Reaganomics and perfectly relevant today with the Tory government and the Bush administration. Get past the first half hour, and you'll have an extremely rewarding and subversive film. Not meant to be taken seriously in a Star Wars mythology or hard sci fi means. It's parody and satire taken to lunatic extremes. Still, it's one of my favourite political films of all time, and belongs right next to Dr. Strangelove imo. :)

I like the video a lot. Clever and fun. And Freeland has always been a favourite of mine of the Intl Breaks DJ.
