Victor Calderone at Stereo in Montreal

It was my first trip to Stereo. The rumours are so so true. The sound is absolutely pristine. Extremely loud, but you could put your head right in the speaker and not feel any discomfort. Its just so pure.

Last night was a marathon. Absolutely. Longest club night I've ever had in Canada. Got in the club at 2:15am, and with the exception of a 3 hour break, I didn't stop dancing till I left when they finally shut it down at 2:20pm.

Calderone exploded on the decks. In the primarily gay crowd, we all went loopy for him. So many standout tracks. Impeccable mixing. Madonna's What its like for a girl was given a serious thumping bass line, and we were grooving hard.

It was nice when the crowd was thinning out only at noon! Then there was over 2 hours of some serious space for big big moves.

Wicked crowd, vibe, gay clubs bring out the most beautiful women in the city. I love to see them relax, with no beefcake jocks circling around, trying to get a piece.

It was just all about the music. And Alain Vinet closed out the night giving us more and more till there were maybe just 50 of us in the place.

Excellent. Montreal is primo.

damn... they do know how to party in Montreal.

I went to the 514's connected party in 99. At 8:30am when I left the place was still as packed as it was at 1am.

I gotta check out Stereo already. I've heard so many good things about there system. I need to experience it for myself.

i'm thinking a trip to montreal sounds in order...incredible...although i couldn't do a 2pm in the afternoon shutdown time every weekend, i'm sure it would be a nice option to have...sounds like a great time & everyone who visits stereo comes away with a great impression...

Attached is a link to a site that ranks clubs in Canada. Looks like Stereo wins out. Sorry to all my Trawna brothas and sistahs, but Stereo really does kick System's ass.

Not that I would argue against Stereo being awesome, but why would I base my argument on what some random guy thinks? Is he some sort of proffesional clubber?

"Professional Clubber" That made me laugh. If there is such a job, where do I apply?

Yah, you're right, its not any kind of definative review, but like he said in the description, Stereo was ranked top club in North America by Musik Magazine in '99. People are always saying that their sound system is the best analog sound in the world.

Have you been Basic? At the very least, its worth checking out. My argument is based on what I saw with my own eyes, and heard with my own ears. His page just kinda reinforces it.

I've read in several different magazines as well as umpteen websites that Stereo has one of the best, if no the best sound systems in North America.

This was said by not only the authors of the articles but just about every DJ that has played there.

regardless, I'll be checkin' it out for myself next month. I was in line for stereo on NYE but decided to go somewhere else because they weren't serving alcohol. I wish I didn't leave... I ended up at metropolis, spent $200 in an hour on liquor, danced to that toca's miracle by fragma... then woke up vomiting in my hotel room in the morning. That's all I remember...
So ya, I don't know what that has to do with anything, I've had a few drinks and just can't stop typing.
Alright... I think I'm done now.

peace out homies!

On the opening night of Stereo I think it was Angel Moraes who just started twiddling with the EQ's, cross faders, volume just to showcase to the crowd what the system was capable of. Everyone was just looking at each other just stunned and shaking their heads.

I love to see the look on people's faces when they enter the club and hear the sound for the first time, or better still, go sit inside one of the speakers.

He's just another aural victim of the sound system in that place. You can count me as one. It's...(I can't find the right words.)

If you ever get the chance to check it, then do. Then let us know what you think!

Come to think of it:

Now that Twilo and it's legendary Phazon sound system is no more...Stereo's SS must be on top

Glad to see you had a good time @ Stereo Josh...

That would make sense, since Angel engineered the sound system.

I wonder why more clubs don't go with similar or even exact set ups.

Considering sound is one of the most important aspects of a club.

Evan, I hope you're aware that Stereo still doesn't serve alcohol. You get your buzz off other things

It wouldn't make sense for them to serve it anyway, since there's only about a 60 minute gap when there are actually people in there, and they're in the legal serving time. (Stereo opens at 2am)

~Josh

oh yah, Last time Teneglia played Stereo, he pulled out a 24 hour set. *That* is a marathon.

I have never been to Stereo, although I've always wanted to go - I wasn't commenting on the validity of Stereo being up there, just thought it was funny to reference some random dude's opinion for backup

"yeah, whiskey saigon is the best...my friend fleaflo thinks so!"

<--was being an ass but isn't really an ass..right dave?

A couple of girls I met in Sweden last summer are coming to visit me for a week, so they will be here. Next week is a good one, cuz I'm taking them to Stereo on saturday night - when they get here, and then bongos in the Parc on sunday.

Bongos today was sooooo huge! There must have been over a thousand kids there. My friend Nick and I hacked for 7 hours, with a couple of sit down breaks.

I don't know why everybody doesn't live here. And the best part? Montreal rent is about half that of Toronto. My 2 bedroom, *right* downtown is $835/mo. And its very nice - and furnished no less.

Come on down anytime........mmmmmm mmmmm good.
