I have to confer with Dan, here, in that we were promised a completely different sound-system than the one we ended up having to set up ourselves (cannibalizing from the other party upstairs that kindly donated speakers and amps). The shape of the room, as well, is not conducive to sound, and it was a shitty venue. I have to apologize for much of this, as there are very few venues to book on NYE, and we were completely neglected by the resident sound guy - Steve McLeod - who not only didn't provide the gear promised, but didn't show up at all due to personal issues.
Similar things happened in the basement, which should have had 2 more rooms with speakers in each, and although Satori was relegated to the shitty (we did our best to clean and cover) basement, there was little time on the main stage to give out without shortening sets further. Satori's crew (thanks, Evan) were called at 8PM to bring their own tables as our second set never showed up, and we had three DJ's for the second "room" cancel altogether.
To top this off, NR didn't arrive at the venue until 11:45!!! To supplement this problem, the mixer they needed was missing with the rest of the gear and we had to improvise just to allow our headliner to play. The tardiness of their arrival made for shortened sets for everyone afterwards.
Even given these problems, it was a wicked night, and I apologize for the venue/sound problems that we had, and personally apologize to Nick for what happened with his set and the room/gear (3:30-5:00 set for R6 - ok?). I'm so happy that we had the turn-out that we did, and that everyone appeared to have, and that, I think, most of the problems that we had didn't really affect the vibe of the night or the good time that people seemed to have. As for the ending time, we arranged for at least another hour to be held at Area51 without additional cover, so nobody can complain that there wasn't anything to do at 6AM. I promise that next year we'll have a bigger, cleaner, more roomed, nicer smelling, CLEAN and LOUD sounding systemed party in a different venue. We proved with Union that a PsyTrance NYE party is viable and wicked-fun, so there will be a UoT II to look forward to!
Thanks again to all helped make this night happen and all who came and made the effort and fuck-ups well worth it for the good time that I had,
Clay
