U.K. Jr.

I noticed when ever i hear a U.K. producer, D.J. Mc or whatever talking about Toronto or Canada we are seen as U.K. because really that is what we are. We have a small circle of producer who are representing us and when we spin our sets they seem to be rewind sets from a few years ago. Yeah we have or dub plate specials but when do you think Canada will step out and contend with the U.K. ? To be honest with you i think now is the time for the N.A. upsrising because i think we so could contend with U.K. and that would take Drum and Bass to a crazy level.

I think the U.K. is getting quite comfortable with themselves and the U.S. is getting high up there but it seems that after they get popular anywhere in N.A. they run off with all the U.K. boys and just sort of disappear.

What do you think of this situation? This is one of the biggest reasons i want to get into producing i think Toronto and Canada needs to put themselves on the map, we have a massive scene just very little innovators.

Thats just my opinion what do the T.O. DJ's and producers think?

this is just a generalization... so i will accept all bashing and rude comments...

Thanks

Mike, this topic has been done to death!!

But I must say...there are an increasing amount of new producers coming out of T.O.
Big things coming for sure.

having a ton of upcoming producers doesn't mean much if they all try to sound like fresh (not saying thats the way it is, i don't know these producers)

I don't know what many of them sound like, but I know there's a lot of people around here starting to produce.
Which can't be a bad thing.

i'd like to see some outsiders get into our scene. i'd love to see some producer come out of know where. say having a guy who spent his days in a punk or rock band. or have some of the hip hop guys get into it. or better yet, have some of the r&b artists cross over.

i'm just all about musical cross overs lately. i just can't get enough

and i will say again that it's about time that someone steps up and brings more meaning, deapth and lyrics to the table in the studio. i'm sick of having no lyrics..... i want it all

i'd say that in the last couple years the number of guys in the studio has tripled. guys like dappa are springing up all over.

and guys like lush, l natural and marcus are producing tons now

we'll sit back and wait to hear the results.

When you say N.A. do you mean north american?

Canada's scene here and that of the states are two seperate entities.Although we may be brothers in spirit,we both have different sounds with production and various styles while Djing...we have to do our own battles...and that definetly means that WE are a major force alone, not with american dj's on board.

too many imitators, and not enough innovators.

marcus and dave whalen are the only people in toronto producing anything worth listening to.

...i sort of feel the UK is even giving more props to US artists now....

...they dig the scene here but look at all the US artists getting on UK labels these days.....

I disagree, Dappa has been producing some quality tracks. Especially his stuff on the houesy tip.
L Natural and Lush are also on the rise big time.

they have ALOT more producers in the States though, and alot of em are really good. Its kind of hard for us to compete, with only 4 million peeps in Toronto, and over 300 million in America.
