CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Clay Aiken, the North Carolina native who warbled his way to the runner-up spot on "American Idol," heads the list of the "Ten Best-Mannered People of 2003" as named by the National League of Junior Cotillions.

The league, based in Charlotte, is an etiquette and social training program for young people in the United States. The list released Tuesday was its 12th annual.

...apparently the junior cotillions haven't reached the part of the handbook that deals with the thin line between well-mannered and incredibly gay.

Man shoots self after taxi robbery

BOB MITCHELL
STAFF REPORTER

A man died when he apparently shot himself accidentally after the robbery of a taxi driver in Brampton early yesterday.

Randy Robinson, 19, of Brampton, died in hospital shortly after a Kwik Cab taxi driver was robbed at gunpoint, at about 1:10 a.m. on Adam St. near Bovaird Blvd. and Conestoga Rd.

Peel police believe Robinson and another man robbed the cabbie and then fled the scene, but the handgun accidentally went off when the dead man tried to put the weapon into his pants.

The other, unidentified, man is believed to have picked up the gun before leaving the scene, police sources said.

The taxi driver, a 42-year-old Brampton man, was unhurt.

Peel Constable Wendy Sims said the cab had been dispatched to pick up a fare on Adam St.

"Upon arrival, two men entered the cab and one male, armed with a handgun, pointed the firearm at the driver," Sims said. "He was robbed of his money and car keys."

When police arrived, they found the fatally wounded man on the ground.

"It has been clearly established that the taxi driver didn't discharge a weapon," Sims said.

An autopsy is slated for today.

My question is if Aiken is the runner up of American Idol, how come he gets more press than the winner?

I mean, I've heard so much about Clay Aiken's CD....Clay Aiken appearing on a TV special....with Kelly Clarkson (American Idol's first winner)....but nothing about Ruben.

Why is that?

Ah fuck. I was just going to post that story about the moron shooting himself.

I was laughing my ass of in the car when I heard this.

Reminds me of the scene in Out of Sight when the guy trips going up the stairs and blows his brains out.

Too fucking funny.

Both of you are wrong.
My answer is talent.
Clay is a better singer...and I think he only won by a slim margin - or so my grandma tells me.

And for Eclectic - Ruben has been on several daytime talkshows promoting his new Christmas CD I think.

My answer was not wrong. I just didn't explain it fully.

Clay's music/CD/image/everything has a wider market available to sell to. Partially because his music is better, but also because he has the geeky-cute image that can be sold as a dream to millions of young girls who are kinda haggered and think they have a shot with be Clay's next love.

Whereas Ruben, has to sell his CD based pretty much on his music alone. I don't mean any disrespect to the brother, but his look isn't exactly standard teen idol material.

Cheers ... Ian :)
