Police are asking people turn in the drugs they bought at VELD in order for them to be analyzed. If they turn in a single dose they will not be charged. If they have quantity to turn in they should contact a lawyer to do that. Autopsy is being conducted on at least one of the victims to try and determine what the substance was that caused the deaths and hospitalizations.

They are not sure if it was "party drugs" or poison sold under the guise of "party drugs".

No doubt police are getting a description of the dealer from the 13 survivors and with the sheer amount of selfies being taken with everything they are sure to have a photo to make an arrest or two in the next few days I bet. It is a homicide investigation BTW.

description of the dealer was very heavy male, with short blonde hair who was seen sweating heavily and mumbling "subways, subways, subways!"

A lot of people sure seem to be dying at music festivals these days.

Back in the day it seemed pretty rare.

There was another in BC last week I believe. What is all this about?

Stronger drugs?
More retarded partiers?
Slacking off by festival promoters who seem to be focusing on profits instead of safety?

If Mammoliti says one word about this he needs to be quickly reminded of the shooting that occurred last night right outside MUZIK.

From Canadian Press

TORONTO – Toronto police have launched a homicide investigation after a 20-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man died at a weekend music festival.

Police say 13 other people who attended the Veld Music Festival in Downsview Park in north end Toronto were taken to hospital.

In a media briefing on Monday, Deputy chief Mark Saunders said all 15 people ingested what police believe was a party drug purchased at the festival.

Anyone who may have bought the drug is being warned not to consume it and to turn it over so police can analyze the substance.

“This is under the realm of illegal drugs. There are people who probably don’t want to come forward or see us,” said Detective Sergeant Peter Trimble during an interview on The Morning Show.

“I’m not concerned about the purchaser of the drugs. I’d like any witness to come forward and talk about who they bought the drugs from on that day or night.”

Det. Sgt. Trimble said both victims fell ill after consuming the substance and criminal charges could be laid.

“There is a potential for a homicide charge,” he said. “This is a criminal action that resulted in the death of two young people.”

Charles Khabouth, Founder and CEO of INK Entertainment, one of the organizers of the Veld Festival, said in a statement that the deaths were “health-related tragedies that sadden us deeply.”

“We extend our heart-felt condolences to the families and friends of these individuals and will keep them in our prayers,” the statement reads.

Khabouth further said public safety and security has always been a priority at the festival and that it “remain that way and with the highest standard of support.”

Organizers say they employed 280 security guards, 40 medics, a medical doctor, 8 paramedics and 26 paid duty officers for the two-day event.

In the meantime, the Special Investigations Unit has been called in to investigate the death of the 22-year-old man.

The SIU says police spotted the man being carried by two people and called for an ambulance, but he became violent while paramedics were working on him.

Investigators say the man was placed in handcuffs, which were removed inside the ambulance, but the man was pronounced dead on the way to the hospital.

The SIU – which probes all cases of death, serious injury and allegations of sexual assault that involve police – has assigned seven investigators to the case.

I haven't heard of alot of people dying at Festivals in recent years in Toronto? Isn't this the first one in ages?

And it certainly happened at parties "back in the day". I'm not sure the rate is any higher, especially if you factor in the much larger crowds now. In fact it might even be lower. EDM is also very very mainstream now, so the likelihood of this being reported in the media is higher as well.
