TTC Etiquette (the daily observations of an irate commuter)

I'm sorry, but if he's blind and wandering around a full car, go and fucking take his arm and give him your goddamn seat.

I am so sick of seeing passive commuters who only care about their back-problems or ones taking up seats cuz they're avoiding touching the ground with their shopping bags.

I got so mad last week that I shook my head at everyone sitting and went and lead the dude to my seat. I could NOT believe how much time went by and no one reacted. He wandered, stumbling around looking for a seat.

You should've seen the guilty faces after the guy sat down. I just looked at them with evil.

And yes, old ladies have to sit for a reason. Because they fall and break all their bones into pieces.

Sometimes I love riding the train but sometimes the people just make me sick to my stomach from the lack of courtesy and manners.

yesterday, i saw a family standing on the platform at vic park with a five year old running all over the place. as the train ran pulled into the station, the five year old ran onto the yellow line and stuck his head over the line, his toes were about an inch from the edge. me and everybody else stood there in shock because it looked like this kid was going to fall over. the parents just stood there chatting away. stupid parents.

peace

I couldn't handle TTC commuting

I have a huge problem with people who behave with no sense of humanity.

what pisses me off is when the train is full and the people who are not leaving do not step off the train to let other people off. i got into a shouting match with some chick who kissed her teeth at me because i bumped into her because other people wouldn't clear a path to the door.

peace

I HATE public transportation.

I will not use it ever, and thankfully I have a car.
in the past 5 years I think I've used it 5 or 6 times.

PinkAngel;

I'm gonna play 'devils advocate' for a sec.

Isn't driving your car everyday to work WORSE to humanity as a whole, rather than taking public transportation?

Hear Hear!! Another big piss off is the folks that run through a doorway & leave the door to swing closed in the face of the person behind them. You'd think it'd kill them to take the time to reach out & keep the door at an open angle.

Good for you, MoFo, for helping that poor guy! I'm sure he appreciated *somebody* finally taking action to assist. :) More of that good karma, baby!!

yes it is in a sense but me killing the passenger on the TTC isn't very nice either
:p
I work with the public so I see enough
When I get on a subway, I get really agitated seeing people act the way they do.

I just don't see how helping someone in need could be looked down upon. I'm sure people just think, "oh, what if he shrugs me off? What if yells at me for treating him like a baby."

I say, if you're blind, you're blind. If you have weak bones, you have weak bones. I don't see anything wrong with special treatment if it is needed.

It's not like it's pity. It's just common courtesy. Do some people really think that being blind is NOT a valid reason for them to give up their seat? I wonder sometimes..

Werd. That was my next one.

I also think it's funny when I lean over in a packed train to let someone trying to squish through in and they end up stoppinging there, thinking I was giving them that space to stand. Then I end up still on my tippy toes with my head over some guy's head who's sitting down in front of me... I always say, "uh.. no. And I lean back to my standing position and they always get pissed off."

I have decided that Toronto people are lazy fucks. I am so sick of how we're so laid-back. It drives me insane. People walk SO slow.

I'm sorry, lady, but it's great that you get to go shopping today but you're making me late for work.

Also, people who hog stairways and escalators by walking like turtles all loungy and lazy. Especially if a train is coming. I always think, "because you walked that way in front of me with your friend not caring about the humoungous crowd of people behind you two, I just missed the train by a step."

TTC

I ride the TTC every day. I see all kinds of assholes on the TTC. Not letting people who need a seat take it, not clearing doorways of subway cars to let people in, taking up seats with their bags, all kinds of bullshit. Do you drivers think that you are any better off? There is all kinds of 'inhuman' behaviour displayed by drivers on our roads anyway. What about idiots weaving between lanes trying to get ahead by the few inches to get where they are going 30 seconds faster? How about those lunatics who drive as fast as they can get away with? These are the kinds of people that cause accidents which result in loss of lives. Do you think that that is safe driving? Those people don't even know how to fucking drive! The road is not a racetrack. You want to race, go to Mosport with your shitbox and maybe you'll crash there somewhere and not drive again for a while to learn how to first. Just because you drive doesn't make you any better than us who take the TTC. I feel I am doing our planet a favour by not driving everywhere and I will continue to do so long after all of us are complaining that we can't breathe the air anymore because of all of the air pollution caused by cars in our society.

Cheers,

Jake

I fall into this category: need car to work in Mississauga, plus need it for work through the day.

But it has made me a TTC snob. I never use it.

Watch for that beautiful yellow carbon haze that hangs over the city as the weather gets warmer

who's fault? yours

Those holes in the ozone layer over the Arctic and Antarctica

who's fault? yours

Low density suburban sprawl that wipes out farm land, wildlife habitats and pollutes groundwater resources

who's fault? yours

Old people and children suffering and even dying from asthma
as things heat up

who's fault? yours

Mine and other city dwellers lungs looking and behaving as if we have a pack-a-day habit even though we're non-smokers

who's fault? yours

The increased incidence of breast cancer in city dwelling women and colon cancer in city dwelling men

who's fault? yours

Green spaces paved over for roads or parking lot's, monstrosities like the Gardiner, congestion downtown, road rage, drunk driving

who's fault? yours

The reliance on oppressive regimes who punish their people to provide multinational corporations with oil yet citizens see no benefit thus leading to major issues such as the current situation in the Middle East, Nigeria and Venezuela (let no one tell you it's not all about oil)

who's fault? yours

City streets so unsafe from the number of cars that kids can't even play road hockey or frisbee on them

who's fault? yours

Welcome to 2002...cars are bad...if you live or work in the city use the bus, use the subway, use the train. It's the only way to go.

If you come into the city, use it. Why should those of us who live here have to suffer for your laziness?

Park at Kipling and ride the rocket, save yourself money, time and hassle, save us from your dirty fumes and unsafe streets.

Compromise, it's a good thing ja?

Living in the suburbs allows you to enjoy fresh air and green spaces. plus its a short drive to wilderness or a metropolis.

downtown has its benefits. But, living in the suburbs is far better than the city!

I enjoy visiting downtown. But, I feel sorry for people who live there!

It's not about whether the suburbs are better or worse than the city, we all have our different opinions that have been thoroughly debated on this board.

I'm saying if you come here don't drive. It's been made very easy for you, take advantage.

I agree! If I knew where transit went. I would take it, when I'm downtown for the day.

Especially since the Go train in Georgetown is a 5 minute walk from my house.

It takes me well over one hour to get to work by TTC
It takes me 20-25 minutes to drive
simple equation for me
I do my best to keep my car running well and drive people around everytime I go out.

I don't need lectures on the environment because we have heard them before.
Cars are not the main contributory factor to polution etc.
Everyone is responsible because we all use some sort of fuel, plastic, manufactured products etc.
