Another excellent TBQ, cut a tiny bit short by a sudden torrential rainstorm just as Wiseman was 3 tracks into the last set of the evening. So good to see faces old and new, and especially the ultranew TRIBE babies - even baby Olive was sort of moving around in time to Red Turtle's nice new glitch hop sound. And Matt and Laurel's future DJ Leaf seemed to really like house music too. Greg from Stickman Records & Yuki popped by for a visit with his Stick-mini-dude Cole. Rachael Conduit, owner of The Avro Bar in Leslieville with her friend Nadya, and Neil Rankin of the bands Foxfire and GAY with Kaeli.
The sound by MOOG Audio was perfect. Clean, crisp and bassey. Tobywan your set was a really beautiful start to the day, and as always, your help with the setup of the annual TBQ is most essential and appreciated. Ghaleon's 420 set was perfect dinner music. Aaron Bradley picked up the pace with excellent house leading into Mat Lunnen's jackin' funky stuff. Just lovely. And then Sage opened with this amazing vocal alphabet track that was so perfect...
No competition meat this year, except for the bacon of course, but sausages! Everybody was BBQing sausages! Sausages are the new competition meat. There was beef and blueberry sausages, pork and mango sausages, hot Macedonian sausages, some kind of spicy korean sausages. Sausages: So hawt right now!
I figured the 13th one might be a bit unlucky - and sure enough, when I opened the power box to plug in the DJ setup, wasps had decided to make the power box their home and I got stung on my finger. My right hand swelled up like a giant ham - so I guess there was competition meat after all!
Thank you all for coming out.
