TRIBE BBQ 13 - Rainstorm!

Another excellent TBQ, cut a tiny bit short by a sudden torrential rainstorm just as Wiseman was 3 tracks into the last set of the evening. So good to see faces old and new, and especially the ultranew TRIBE babies - even baby Olive was sort of moving around in time to Red Turtle's nice new glitch hop sound. And Matt and Laurel's future DJ Leaf seemed to really like house music too. Greg from Stickman Records & Yuki popped by for a visit with his Stick-mini-dude Cole. Rachael Conduit, owner of The Avro Bar in Leslieville with her friend Nadya, and Neil Rankin of the bands Foxfire and GAY with Kaeli.

The sound by MOOG Audio was perfect. Clean, crisp and bassey. Tobywan your set was a really beautiful start to the day, and as always, your help with the setup of the annual TBQ is most essential and appreciated. Ghaleon's 420 set was perfect dinner music. Aaron Bradley picked up the pace with excellent house leading into Mat Lunnen's jackin' funky stuff. Just lovely. And then Sage opened with this amazing vocal alphabet track that was so perfect...

No competition meat this year, except for the bacon of course, but sausages! Everybody was BBQing sausages! Sausages are the new competition meat. There was beef and blueberry sausages, pork and mango sausages, hot Macedonian sausages, some kind of spicy korean sausages. Sausages: So hawt right now!

I figured the 13th one might be a bit unlucky - and sure enough, when I opened the power box to plug in the DJ setup, wasps had decided to make the power box their home and I got stung on my finger. My right hand swelled up like a giant ham - so I guess there was competition meat after all!

Thank you all for coming out.

Pics forthcoming.

Perfectly said! That was our first time making it out to one of these and it was awesome. Everyone... I mean everyone was so nice and welcoming. The weather for the most part was great, the music was absolutely amazing and the food was excellent.

It was a pleasure meeting everyone and we looking forward to seeing you all at the next one. Thanks for letting me play Alex!

Sad I had to miss it this year due to conflicting obligations.

Was thinking about trying to make it down for 9 but it started raining where I was around 8 p.m.

Sounds like I missed a good one!

I was contacted by someone who found a digital camera near the Toronto Star building with pictures on it taken at the TRIBE BBQ. If it is your camera, please contact me and I will put you in touch with the person who found it.

OMG - I'm almost in tears right now. Alex it is mine... well it is Shannon's. It is black, with a brown leather case (Panasonic Lumix). It has pictures of me dj'ing on it and videos too. It also has pictures of the Labatt's Blue Can cake she did this weekend.

Can you PM me your number Alex. This is so amazing... we didn't want to tell anyone that we lost it because we didn't want to ruin the thread about a great bbq. She actually took a picture of a plane that flew over the ferry as we went back to the main land. Somehow from there to the car it went missing.

Can you PM me your number.

I had an amazing time despite only playing 3 tracks. Great people. Great meat although the food we brought was pretty weak. Thanks everyone who played with our kids. I really appreciated how up for it the grownups were to entertain the short people.

Set of the day was Lunnen's. Too bad we didn't get to do our back to back session as you were just rocking it and I was ready to join in with more of the same.

Saving the equipment was an adventure to say the least and I was glad we all worked together so smoothly while getting drenched.

Thanks Alex!

Ya, it was a shame it got cut short, i was just getting warmed up! Always next year.....

Thanks again for the party....being an old promoter i can appreciate the pain and aggravation that goes into setting something like this up. So kudos. Wife and kids had a great time as well! Nice meeting everyone! Thanks again for the power cord Herb.

Fun times indeed. Wife and baby enjoyed the day on the Island. Good thing we are meat eaters again as both bacon were excellent. Thanks for having me play again Alex!

Mmmmmmmm.... I'm new to bbq'd pineapple (Copacabana) but I can say that was the best Pineapple I've ever had!!!

Was that brown sugar that was on the outside of it?

:D

PM Par- T for his recipe, or maybe he can post it here. This was the first year I tried one (they are his trademark TBQ food) and they were delicious. I think he pre-soaks them in various kinds of booze if I am not mistaken.

I've been out of town and out of touch for a long time, this was a great way to spend my one weekend in the city :) It was so nice to catch up with some good friends, eat some good food (=bacon) and listen to some great tunes. Aaaand, I can't believe that Tim and I narrowly escaped being on the Island when the storm hit! We were just stepping off the ferry when those big fat raindrops started falling. I sat it out under the Westin and watched people run by in the rain. What a show.

Thanks as always Alex. You sure know how to throw a bbq.

Yep, things were goin' pretty smoothly until I started to notice this massive wall of rain moving in from the west...but as Sage mentioned, people pitched in and the equipment was saved :)

Already looking forward to next year!

I already have an extra tarp put away for next year. AND wasp killer, antihistamine gelcaps and cream.

I'm just throwing this out there, but would a tent... say a 10x10 or a 20x20 be beneficial next year? I can look into getting one donated for next TBQ.

I would be great for both the DJ and the food.

;)
