Torontos' Underrated Techno Producers
I think toronto has alot of under rated producers!
What's with this city and not being able to make enough techno to fill the market with our talents?
With everyone we know there has to be atleast 20 decent producers in toronto who make music. But only a few ppl who have actually had releases out by themselves or other labels......
what's with that? can we have a techno revival? get some of our ppl out there doing good on a larger level?
First off, I want to give a shout to all who have supported my productions from day one. Most of you have some promos and other who don't, i'll be glad to get you a CD.
Producers here in Toronto I find, and I totally may get shot for this, seem to take a real introverted approach when it comes to marketing themselves. From discussions I've had, I've come to the conclusion that they think that the same rules should not apply to them as they do DJ's, with regards to marketing and promotion. I can't disagree more. Get in people's faces! Send out productions!
Circ early to late 90's, producers were regarded as the "pinnacle" in the whole DJ culture circuit. With the advent of software and the ease of starting home laptop based studios, DJ's have taken control of their own work, without the need of producers who own gear. In essence, putting the sole promotion of their material on a producers shoulders. Bottom line. Producers now need to work harder to get out there.
Mind you, the work I've done with Greg has helped my career enourmously. Techno fans all over hear my shit now, and the use of Final Scratch launches that even further. Charting in Europe, Spain and NA puts more faith in my beleif that producers can still make their mark.
Even though I've been producing and releasing material since 93 (started with mail order cassettes, doing live PA's at Pizza Pino's in Ajax...funny story), i still need to push, prod and sometimes use brute force to get on bills.
A great succuss story producer has always been Jake Fairley. Stayed true to his sound, and reached great hights worldwide
Hope to see you all out this Friday for Mono!
