Sorry to hear what happened
I almost got killed by a beck taxi cab. Ran straight through a red, not a yellow.. it was plainly green on my side as i was approaching and if i didn't see him speeding down the street causing me to stop at a green, i would have been easily dead as he was going at least 70+ and he had a fare.
I caught up to him and he was laughing at me,
i called the cab co, and they basically told me to fuckoff.
I can't stand cabs as a result and will never hesitate to rip into one who abuses the road. I call for more regulation. They've been getting away with too much.
May I ask what happened?

I fucking hate taxi drivers.
They're just about all pieces of shit, although there are a few good ones.
I've had several try and rip me off by taking fucked up routes and when I told them to go my way, they complained that it would take to long, and cost me more. Of course it always takes less time and costs less because I happen to know this city like I know my dick...... very well
Incidentally, everytime this happened I was leaving a club and was drunk. I guess they thought I wouldn't notice and decided to try and take advantage of me.
I usually won't even tip taxi drivers... unless he's seems like a good... which most of them aren't.

Do you recall what type of light it had on the top?
White box or orange circle or yellow diamond?
Beck taxis (or most of them anyway) are black with orange.
Royal cabs are mostly navy blue.
Cititaxi has various colours and there are several more with cabs with non-uniform colours in the fleet.
Don't know what happened to you, but my advice to everyone is to order cabs to your location by phone, as that's the only way to ensure that their actions are tracked by their company.
Even when I get in cabs randomly on the street, I've learned to make a point of checking the cab company, cab number and always make sure that the driver's picture matches the actual driver. I may not remember the number, but I'll certainly be able to tell what company it's from as well as being able to describe the driver if necessary.
The only reason I'm so careful is because of what happened to a friend at university. She was extremely drunk at a party, and two of her friends put her in a cab to be taken home. They gave the guy $20 and instructed him to take her home. The extra tip was to take her right to her door (she could barely stand).
Instead, the driver drove to a remote location, raped her, and left her in a ditch. She managed to struggle home, but they were not able to track the guy down, as they didn't recall a) what the company was b) what the driver looked like.
Extreme case (although, from recent news reports this has been occuring quite frequently in the Toronto area), but it could happen to you. Now, 99% of the drivers I've met have been nice and courteous, but it doesn't take two seconds to be aware of these minor details.

happened to me twice last night ..sheeshh
yeah, that happened to me too. The guy said "I'm not going that way" to which I replied "what the fuck do you mean you're not going that way?"
I got so pissed I ripped the guys employee license off the headrest and told him I would speak to his superior...

If I'm EVER hammered and getting into a cab alone, I always make sure not to ACT drunk. Not that it's always possible, but come to think of it, I have several other stories of close friends being fucked over by cab drivers when they were too drunk to notice.
One guy I know was "helped" out of the cab by the driver, who also helped himself to his watch. Quite forcefully. Unfortunately, my friend was too drunk to stop him.

I don't care how drunk I was, if a fucking cabbie tried to do that to me, I'd at least have enough sense to kick him in the fucking nuts, then steal his cab or something.

Yeah, he did try to fight back, but it was a case of big dude, little drunk guy, and he got a quick punch in the face.
Unfortunately, he was just so blotted that he couldn't function/think quick enough.

I once saw a cabbie get out of his cab, run to another cab in front of him..and start beating on the guy...it was whacked
i can understand where the anger in here is coming from. but let's try and relax here a little. meet up and beat some cabbies? come on evan, that's being a little extreme. and rob, i can also understand why you are angry as well. but not every cabbie is an asshole and out to rip you off or fuck you over.
