Its celebrated scholastically as one of the best movies ever made at least at this film class I took at McGill. I personally liked the movie and can see why it would be rated as one of the best films ever, truly innovative. To each their own I guess.

Citizen Kane is a terrific movie from a dramatic standpoint - man goes up, man goes down, his whole life spent secretly searching for the carefree life and love he once had as a child.

Technically, Orson Welles imbued the film with so many firsts it is hard to keep track of them. Long shots, deep focus and extensive use of dollys and cranes to name three.

Myself I tend to like Touch of Evil better - another movie filled with firsts. Although Kane is definitely top 10 material, Walter Murch's re-edit of ToE (to Welles' specifications) is a tour-de-force.
