Tipping Hairdressers

Is there a standard? Is it like that of the service industry at 15%? I never know how much to tip. I'm not talking about just a cut, I get the whole works. Anyone have any advice? Are there some rules that I should know about?

I have often wondered about this one, too

Good question...

My highlights are usually $90+, cut about $40+

Each is by a different person, and I usually toss $10 to each - eh, is this ok? Or substandard?

I've been using the same salon for years... and adore my Jay & Michelle...

Any 'industry insiders' out there who could shed some light?

PS: and what's the rule if your hairdresser owns the salon? I hear that's a different spin...

See, I once heard that tipping the owner is wrong - and could be taken as an insult (huh??)

I cannot comprehend not tipping if you get good service - regardless of ownership....

^^^^ Yes, that is cheap.

I usually tip $1 or $2 for my $10 hair cuts.
$1 for doing it
$2 for doing it good (not needing me to ask for corrections)

:)

Holy shit, that's 150 bucks for your hair. That's insane!

Noooo....not really... pretty standard for girlies who do anything more than a cut...

and I even travel to the Hammer to do it - just 'cause I've been dealing with the same people for 10 (10??!!) years and love them so :)
