Tim Patrick vs Myka

I have been to many of their back to backs and I don't even know who they were last night. I have never NOT enjoyed their sets period. They are amongst my favourite local HOUSE dj's.
Last night was the most disappointing set I have ever seen from them.
I waited all night for a good house battle.
The progressive just kept going, and going going. I was mortified. I just kept getting deader and deader inside.
That was depressing.
I thought I was losing my mind.
The place was empty.
I left completely at a loss and got into my car and cranked up some Hatiras and got reminded why I love house music.

Would the real Tim Patrick and Myka please stand up. I have seen you both grow over the years, supported you, danced my butt off hour after hour. Last night, I was just baffled.

I should have added that I haven't given up or anything like that.
I just know that the next set that I hear from you guys individually and together will kick my ass as per usual.

Yeah I was completely disappointed last night. I have seen the two duel it out before and it was SOOO HYPE!! Last night was just blah. I had to retreat to the jungle room. I gave it a second chance at around 3:30 and it was still blah. Usually Myka and Tim Rip it up nice togeather. What went wrong?

Peace.

The night was bad. no other word fits better here.

Dekoze started with some easy chilling stuff and moved to slightly speedier vibes towards the end of his set including some breaks samples. That was the only part of the night that i kind of enjoyed. Mostly because of the hide u remix and some sick tune with violins that he dropped. Later, when Myka and Tim went up, the night was un-officially over. I am against back2back sets in general, and i was proven to be perfectly correct. The djs themeselves can be awesome, but when they play together it just doesnt come out right. They cant really plan more than 1 track ahead which really sucks. And so it was: the guys layed really bad tunes; slow, monotonic 2 step beats with really poor jazzy and some times vocal cover on top of it. There wasnt any vibe whatsoever.

Downstairs, where the drum'n'bass headz dwell, was no less of a disaster: The place was packed at the beginning despite the cancelled appearance of J. Majik yet almost as if there was a hole in the floor, people were been disappearing really quickly.

Covert(stranjah & gabriel) were ok i guess. I liked stranjah's tunes.. at least it was better than upstairs anyway.
MC Stryka was plain bad. too thuggish an appearance and no real skills.
Rudebwoy whom i give much respect, seemed like he was having a hard time too and MC Lucid lost the rhythm a few times

what da hell happened to turbo?
i want my friday nite back!

Am I the only one who had fun last night?

All I remember is falling asleep when I got home from work, going there, drinking a few and feeling so good that I was out after a long week.

I also remember Alex constantly asking if there was something wrong. Not a thing. I was in such a good mood and I thought the breaks-like stuff added in was wicked. Loved flapping my arms like a chicken!
smile.gif
I guess he was projecting his horrible time onto me.

But I have to agree downstairs was horrific. So many screw ups. So many annoying little fuck ups with the sound and the sets. I was NOT happy with the "new" talent that they had. It just turned a bunch of blips and noises. And you know it's pretty bad when a junglist stays upstairs at Turbo. That was the longest I've ever been up there.

No vibe too. I can't believe I'm saying this but I wish Turbo was more packed.

OH! And someone dropped that "You Spin Me Right Round Baby" song. LAME LAME LAME.

Anyway, I had a good time. [no sarcasm]Really, I did.[/no sarcasm]

ok i have to apologize for bashing the crew so hard. I guess i'm just projecting my bad time on everybody.

usually i'm one of the front line soldiers ripping the dance floor... but that nite was just wrong.
the tunes just couldnt make me move...

prolly something wrong with me, as i've seen some good reviews on t-dot, mofo was fully engaged in his chicken dance, joey was smiling (well.. that's not something out of the ordinary) and Lucid told me he had a great time MCing..

boooo me!!
i'm soooo not fun!

My chickendance was fun to do. I just did whatever the music told me to do. Funky funky funky.

At least I didn't do the hamsterdance.

And a guy did come up to me to tell me that I was a "great dancer." Thas has NEVER happened b4. EVER.

I'm just being a little harsh for effect.

Like, I can go to a party that is not to my liking and still have a great time. Which I did.

Um... I don't know if you noticed the many many mistakes made in the basement. I don't know if you noticed some people rolling their eyes and going back upstairs during the awkward silences.

I've been spoiled in the past by really great British d&b so... I'm not a big fan of the local scene. And I know it's your job but MC's are... superfluous to the music. Sometimes, it's wicked to get the crowd hyped but most of them do it at intervals where it's like the beats are the music and the MC is the "lead singer."

I came for the jungle. I listen to jungle on my headphones. If I wanted to hear an MC, I'd buy an MC compilation. Not a Metalheadz cd. And where is the hip-hop over jungle? Why isn't that happening (like Method Man and Roni Size)? I just don't see it progressing with any creative or artistic merit. Music should be about creating something new for the people.

You can only say "MASSIVE" so many times...

Like, J Majik was supposed to be there. He would've KICKED all their butts downstairs. His tracks are amazing. Totally artistic. Totally pieces of work. Signature pieces. Like art pieces.

But the stuff last night was... forgettable. Nameless beats without any substance. Is it really good or are people just caught up in the whole scene? I always say, just because it has jungle beats and is fast and it's being played at Turbo doesn't mean it's good.

haha harsh! jk.

hey man either way im glad u had a good time.

wish i coulda seen ur chicken dance!

as for the eye rolling naw i didnt catch that.

wish i had tho.

you mentioned: "And where is the hip-hop over jungle? Why isn't that happening (like Method Man and Roni Size)? I just don't see it progressing with any creative or artistic merit. Music should be about creating something new for the people."

curious would u liek to see it progress a bit ? or rather just here tunes and not concern yourself with the mc's?

if ur intrested..

www.criminalbeatz.com/luciddemo.zip

please listen.

as for progressing the art form in dnb. not many people want to hear mc's in jungle so i doubt in the live element it will progress much further then.. hypin the crowd and some random rhymes here and thier.

respects for the opinion lemme know ur opinion about the zip of mp3's I posted.

OH! Don't even try it! I'm always harsh and mean.

What's your excuse?

PS: I wasn't the one making grimacing faces at every track. I actually TRIED to enjoy them. I even danced to them.

so :p

I agree, Turbo was pretty lacking last night. I remember thinking, where the hell is the vibe?! There was NONE. Turbo is usually pretty good for that. Something was just lacking last night.

The jungle last night wasn't even good, it had it's moments though. When Total Science was dropped at around 3am that was a hype 5 mins. But other than that, not much to rave about. The MC whoever that guy was was crap. Worst MCing I have ever heard. I don't think I have heard "RAISEUP" so many bloody times!
smile.gif

Hopefully this isn't a repeating thing at Turbo. I like my friday's there, but if the parties are going to be like that from now on, it looks like I will be heading else where. *Shrugs* But I have faith.

Peace.

Man, you are nice Lucid MC. I ALMOST feel guilty.
smile.gif

Um... I think the Roni and Method Man thing is a good example. I can totally imagine a slick MC with tight rhymes going over some wicked d&b. I'm just not into the screaming. It's literally on a higher decibel level than the music.

But I also think that it's a credible job. I mean, this is my opinion only. I'm sure MC's are enjoyed by a big majority of people.

I just don't hear anything new about the scene. Like, stuff being rehashed especially by the newbies. I'm not one to talk cuz I couldn't spin if my life depended on it but I am a consumer. A patron of the jungle scene.

Like, I'm waiting for that moment when someone goes "Here, listen to this. This is going to blow the underground inside out." Sort of like the moment someone discovered jungle beats. Or when MJ Cole fucked his shit up and discovered UK Garage.

Maybe I'm just a restless post-raver.

for the record tho.

stranjah isnt exactly new he has been around for quite some time..

and gabriel is not new at all man has been in the scene for a very long time, so i would never clump him in as new.

the only person i could really fit as new talent would be myself.

just for the record

I had a good time.
Sure wasn't what I was expecting from Timmy and Myka, (didn't even know you owned records like that

) but it really catered to my mood for some reason.
Strange....

woah that was harsh....

first of all there was a very small crowd at turbo
>Deko-ze came in waves...like woah this track is kickass, and then...woah is this trancey?

>then myka showed up...i was in the mood to hear a funky myka but for some reason whenever him and tim get together it's a serious war...they just get harder and harder
and that's what myka was doing...
i didn't even wait for timmy to come it was already 2am and it just wasn't my bag...
i heard myka came from london and timmy was coming from hamilton that night...i'm letting it go...

so i left...if you're not digging it why stay?

glad you were into it tho Jo, i like it when you shake dat booty!!

peace all
janICE:>

iDANCE...ooh i can't wait either
