Definition:
Raves are high energy, all-night dance parties attended by hundreds to thousands of teens and young adults. The music is upbeat and loud. Typically, techno or other electronically synthesized music is played by DJs using mixers. The music is accompanied with bright lights and other psychedelic visual effects designed to enhance the effect of the drugs commonly consumed ( primarily ecstasy, lsd, and others ).
The Raves may be held at peoples homes, in old warehouses, or outside ( in an open field ). Many Raves are "underground," with information about the location spread by word-of-mouth or on the Internet. Other Raves are public and more visible, held at venues such as large arenas, fairgrounds, or dance clubs.
The Culture
Ravers (those who attend raves) adopt an alternative culture. Ravers tend to accept anyone, regardless of age, race, or socioeconomic background.
Many Ravers dress distinctively in baggy clothes and fluorescent colors and wear glitter on their face and body. Raver accessories include backpacks designed with cartoon characters, bright beaded jewelry, pacifiers, and glow sticks. Water bottles and candy, especially lollipops, are the Raver's basic equipment.
The philosophy of the Rave movement is PLUR - an acronym for Peace, Love, Unity, and Respect. They believe that the music and atmosphere of the Rave create positive "vibe" - an indescribable feeling of complete happiness that integrates "Peace and Love" into the music and dancing.
The movement is very similar to the social / spiritual revolution that began in the late 60's and 70's. The philosophies of the hippies and flower children of that era have re-emerged in the Rave scene.
Under the guise of Peace and Love, the devil is using music and drugs to deceive masses of young people.
The Scripture
Notice the Bible's call to be sober and alert of the reality of an adversary:
Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. -- 1 Peter 5:6-11
