The Ps3 User Thread...

I didn't find Demons Souls to be nearly as hard as the 'hype' made it out to be.

It is harder than your average game, but it's not cheap hard. Most deaths can be attributed to user error and using the wrong strategy.

The game also gives you plenty of tools to deal with the hardness, you can

a: Use the right strategy
b: Exploit the game
c: Out-level the area to simply over-power it
d: Use online co-op to make it easier

and, as the game can kill you rather easily - I didn't feel too bad going to option B now and then to over-come some areas.

If you treat the game like most other action-RPG games where you just run into an area spamming your strongest attack - you'll die fast.

It's more about learning where the enemies spawn, what attacks to use on them / etc. ie: knowing when to recognize a strong attack and dodging out of the way instead of trying to block it, then using their delay to get in your attacks.

Borderlands DLC on the 24th, woot!

Just about done the main quest on my 1st play-through. I really wish enemies/quests leveled up with you - running quests that are even only 3 levels below you gets a bit boring when everything dies so fast.

This game is like crack, probably been putting atleast 3-4 hours into it every night since I got it last week.

I'm telling you when there are more then one or two people in the game the enemies get a lot harder, and not as easy to kill. What they are doing is promoting you to play the game online. When I have a full room there is no way you can go in and just wipe everybody out... you will get killed in seconds. I can't wait to see what the DLC is for this game I predict a cult classic with Borderlands.

If I could do split-screen online I would. Right now running through the game with Faunty in local-split screen. Maybe once we've finished PT-1 and not trying to keep our characters in synch anymore I'll start hopping online for some 4-player action.

I'm addicted to Trine still...but am wondering about replay value.

Oh well, I'm so broke for the next little bit I'm going to have a lot of time to finish up the games that have been put to the side.

Snapped up Dragon's Age: Origins (and MW2, to be picked up today) after trading in a bunch of old crappy games. Played it for a few hours last night and am thus far really enjoying the tone and story (think GRR Martin spliced with JRR Tolkien spliced with Scott Bakker).

New to PS3 land, sorry if this has been answered but it's a rlly long thread:

I'm considering getting a PS3 to use mainly as a media center - Is this daft? Are there any good alternatives to XBMC on the PS3 yet? Last I checked all of the solutions involved transcoding on the fly on a Windows-based PC, I'm looking for something that can play natively from an SMB share, like XBMC.

I tried wading in the ps3-hacks site but it's a bit of a mess. Any options?

Really, you just need PS3MediaServer to serve the files.
PS3 Media Server • View topic - Download latest PS3MS Beta build

Its still in active development. MKV files with pretty much any audio encoding will play great - works best if your network is hardwired.

Just saw a video of the new Borderlands DLC coming up, and it sounds pretty cool. They are adding new quests and weapons of course and a whole new part to a map which will have zombie enemies all over the place. The pack is going to be 10 bucks all together... I'm getting it for sure.

Looking forward to the DLC - wondering if I should take a break until it's released. Just finished PT1 and the first quest or two of PT2.

Once again, I've overloaded my backlog - so in addition to Operation Flashpoint, I've now got Uncharted 2, Borderlands, my chemistry course, a new baby, Dragon's Age, and now Call of Duty 6 to take care of. And to think I went into the holiday season planning to grab just one or two games. Shite.

Come to think of it, isn't Q1 of 2010 packed?

I'm pretty happy with what I got right now Uncharted 2, Borderlands and MW2 all have an awesome online mode that gives the games a ton of life. Yeah I'm taking a break for a little while till I get the MW2 bug out of me lol.

GT5 in March, playa

I feel the weeklong flu symptoms already. You should check the TIV on your new baby.

Can someone recommend a good two player game for PS3? With the caveat, the 2nd player is my GF and doesn't like FPS.

I'd still recommend Borderlands - I'm generally not a big FPS fan (neither is Faunty) and we are both addicted to the game like crack.

I second the opinion on Borderlands, and they are already backing up the game with some awesome DLC. From what I was reading the makers of the game are going to be very involved with bringing out new DLC for the game, which is always good in my books.
