During his first formal news conference of the year, Bush said he is committed to modernizing the U.S. nuclear arsenal while reducing the number of nuclear warheads

"to protect the United States from any attacks." Guess what that means. The US will attack them before they attack the US. Wow, what a brilliant preventative strategy.

Bush basically wants to scare Saddam into not launching any Nukes when the States go to war. We all know that they are going to hit Iraq next it is just being able to hit it right. It is very highly unlikely that the states would ever use nuclear weapons again to solve world problems.

Having a nuclear warhead does not necessary make one a nuclear threat. In order for Iraq to truly threaten the states they need a delivery system - i.e. a rocket. The only place Saddam could set off a nuke would be in his own country. He would literally have to drive it to ground zero in a big truck.

Unlike nuclear warheads delivery systems are not for sale. In order to built a long range rocket one needs a space program. Space programs are a countries most closely guarded secret. China for example is performing missions and experiments the US did thirty years ago so that they can develop long range delivery systems and other rocket-based technologies.

Until we see the brown man doing space walks Iraq is not a nuclear threat in the conventional sense.

What I meant was democracy always comes with a price. I'm not saying it's perfect, but name me some other form of government that is?

It's not the price I paid...it's the veterans that paid that price for me (and you) that so much of us take for granted. Not so we can all sit at our keyboards and bitch about it but to ensure that we have the freedom to actively pursue and have the ability to make positive changes in this world.

This does not mean I totally condone what the media has to say, but in a war, one would have to be pretty naive to think there wouldn't be causualties. Of COURSE the media is going to show the hardships of war, that's almost expected.

Actually, a ballistic missile would not be a practical way for them to launch a nuclear attack. It would be immediately detected. They could smuggle it into the states (who knows how many tons of drugs get across their border) and just drive it in the back of a van into a major city. Seriously, no amount of security can completely defend against this type of attack. WTC was done in this sort of sneaky way. They even took some flight training in the states!

The only "defense" is to stop oppressing people so they dont have a reason to attack.

Rosey- I made no mention of the US, nor was I referring to them. I was referring to that statement made about going on the "offensive" as a means of preventing war.

Just before WW1, all the European powers were in the mindset that to win any wars, you had to go on the offensive.
