Depends on how old it is. I read or was told that baby seats have a 6yr. life span because of strict guidelines and safety updates.

If it's under 6 yrs, I'd give it away or donate it to the Diabetes Foundation (pick up old furniture, clothes, etc).

Here is a site that lists expiries by manufacturer:

UPDATE - Children?s car seats and booster seats: How long are they safe? - Transport Canada

That being said many organizations are starting to disallow the selling of used car seats (craigslist, kajiji) or accepting donations due to liability issues.

Just for a reality check, that's 6 years parked outside in the Arizona sun used heavily every day and never maintained with a safety margin built in on top of that. If it's in good shape I'd be totally happy to put my kid in an 8 year old car seat. You'd do better to spend the extra $300 on defensive driving lessons and put down the phone.

Somebody without a lot of cash will appreciate it.

Selling a few items - please check these Craigslist links if interested:
Recipe & Scrap Books (Deceptively Delicious for picky eaters)
One of a Kind "sleepy sheep" crib mobile, made by a local crafer: Mobile
Mighty Machines DVD (Volume 4)
Skip Hop "Dash" Diaper Bag in Blue Stripe

I'll take the crib mobile, if it's still available!

Thanks for that link! 6 looks like the average, while a few are 8-9 years.

hey parents, I need some advice.

Andrea is 2yrs and 4 months and we just did cold turkey potty training this weekend. She seemed ready, and minus a few pee accidents when playing she's totally taken to it in terms of pee, even overnight and naps are dry. But poop is a different story, she simply poops in her underwear every time. no warning or anything.

with ben he was much older when he trained and he insisted on pooping only in a diaper until over age 4, so I can't draw on my experience with him. he never pooped his pants once.

So I'm at a loss. will the poop thing just naturally sort itself out and she'll figure it out? It's not worth it for me to have her in underwear if she's gonna poop every day in it, I'd rather go back to pull ups. any advice or experience?

I don't have any advice other than learning to poo by association.
I am already potty training my son. From what I remember with my sister (she was going in the potty by 1 by herself), my mom taught me to make it into a game, so when she felt the need to go, I would be saying: oh, poo-poo needs to go choo choo, so she would run to the little potty.

My son obviously is only 6 months and doesn't speak yet, but he has managed to go potty in the mornings now - afternoons are hit and miss, because he is too distracted with playing. Basically, it's association - I see he poops morning and afternoon and sometimes evening, so he is starting to be "on clock" and I always catch him in the morning. I see his "poo" face, so I take his diaper off and put him on the potty and wait.

Yeah, that wasn't much help, was it?... lol I just know to put them on potty every day, 2-3 times a day and they learn. My sister learnt that way.

For some kids, the poop thing is scary for some reason; there are actually books geared to kids on that (not that I remember any titles now because that was a long while ago).

I've been lurking in here for many weeks now waiting for his arrival and gathering valuable info and am pleased to announce that on April 25 @ 11:01pm baby boy Roland was welcomed into the world at 8lb9oz, and I was instantly in love :)

No advice, sorry, but wanted to commiserate about poop. L loves to poop if I take his diaper off, the last two nights he's pooped in the bath and if he's naked outside he'll poop, thankfully he doesn't want to play with it. Maybe if we get a potty and make a big deal he'll deign to poop in it. He's 23 months.

ahh! what do you do when there's poop in the tub?

on occasion david has had a poop in his diaper when i go to give him a bath, so i wipe him up a bit and stick him in cause he's in a MAJOR hurry to get in there, and then a few moments later, i see poo bits floating around in the tub. i can't let him play in poo bits, but i can't drain the bathtub right away without risking a major meltdown.

i'm remembering alot these days how much easier babies are to take care of when they're still in utero.

Thankfully his evening poops are really solid, I scooped it out and pretended the bubbles in the bath were sufficiently sanitizing, there were no extraneous poop bits (and L does not drink his bath water currently).
My annoyance is that for the last month he has been anti-bath and he's been filthy after playing outside all day, I have to sponge bath him down to keep him decently clean and keep him from getting diaper rashes, then this week he has been pro-bath again and can play in it for 30 minutes easily, which gives me time to clean other parts of the bathroom and get ready for bed, but now with the poop thing I am wary of ending the bath (making him anti-bath) again, but really I think he's getting old enough to understand that it's best to poop in the potty and not the bath. I guess if it keeps happening I'm going to take him out of the bath and put him on the potty and see if he can get used to that.

Things were definitely easier while I was pregnant, I agree! L at 23 months is getting much more reasonable though so hopefully David will be easier when your new LO arrives. :)

PM me here or on FB for details. thanks!

:D awesome! Pming you now.

Anyone get green bags in your mailbox for a clothing drive to raise money for Sick Kids? I have 3 big bags of maternity, baby and old clothes waiting for pick-up. Feels pretty good to pare things down.

Welcome to the world Roland! Congratulation Ninjetta!!

Thanks everyone! 41 weeks of pregnancy could never have prepared me for the last 2 weeks but I couldn't imagine my life any other way. I look forward to drawing from the experience and knowledge of all of you mommies :)

I swear to god, I'm not on the midwives mailing list! I never get an invite...I only ever know because of you Lisa!

marking it in my calendar now.

and janine, NOTHING about pregnancy prepares you for life with a newborn. its totally trial by fire:) hopefully things are going somewhat okay. there is lots of good wisdom and support amongst these kick ass mommas here, so reach out. That was one of my fatal errors...took me a long time to realize I needed a mama village to help me.

Current best thing about living with a toddler....every night as I am closing Brooklyn's bedroom door, she yells gleefully from the bed....i wuv you mama! Over and over. Its pretty awesome.

Current worst thing about living with a toddler.....insane meltdowns about nothing or next to nothing. This morning's meltdown was about the sippy cup not working properly. I think? God only knows.

i only know b/c i dropped off some toys and nursing bras and things the other day and made an inquiry. they said the email should be going out soon(ish).

i'm actually scheduled to open the family cottage at that time. i'm kinda sad about it since i've never missed it. i may try to convince my MIL to go up to the cottage a day later, but it's unlikely. i guess there's always next year...

Hi Everyone,

It's been a long time :) I hope everyone is well! Quintin has been sick a lot (joys of daycare, including the chicken pox!). I've gone back to work at the daycare and I am keeping busy.

We decided to only have one child, and Steve got fixed in January. So our little man is only man! We couldn't be happier to be a family of three :)

I miss hanging out in here! All the mom advice, and keeping up on what's going on! I will try to pop in more often. I just wanted to say hello- and wish you all a HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3

Here's an updated picture of my Quintin. He's gettin' so big!
