give me a break. if someone is really that down and on the brink of taking their life i doubt they'd be posting on a stupid messageboard. and judging by past posts of smile i assume that this really isn't a serious cry for help.

who are we to judge and assume tho, seriously? we may think it isn't a serious cry for help. but we have no way of knowing that for sure, right? I'd hold off on joking, even if there's only a minuscule chance it's true. Just in case.

A message board might be just ONE of the outlets someone uses to try to find counsel. It's hard to read people's emotions simply from their posts, but with this kind of subject matter, it doesn't hurt to give the person the benefit of the doubt.
If someone truly feels they have no one to turn to, why wouldn't they use a message board?
Support of any kind is important.
And if he's joking, it's an awful joke. But in this situation, I don't think it's right to assume that he is joking.
Smile, I don't know what to say. But I hope you know that there's a lot of people on Tribe you can talk to if you need it.
