The brain cell killing qualities of Twitter

Every time I am on twitter (which is only occasionally) it feels as if I lose brain cells each time I read a tweet. I thought our nobody cares thread was inane but for the most part you don't feel as if you have lost something each time you read a post.

Even mainstream news on twitter has become brain-numbing.

After yesterday's news story about facebook making people less happy, I think there may be a whole pile of people in therapy for internet stuff in the next decade or so.

I signed up for it just because I thought I could get info from interesting people.

And even then, it's meh at best. It's not like they're going to say anything terribly interesting in 140 characters.

Some people have personalities that support communication in 140 characters. Those people like it a lot I think.

I'm not into Twitter very much these days, but I think it's entirely possible to be asinine, interesting, or both, all in 140 characters.

Being on twitter is like hearing everyone's inner retard all the time... for some, this is rather affirming, and makes them feel less alone.

Still do not have a twitter account but I can only imagine the shit people put on there. Facebook is bad enough.

You guys do know that Twitter is based on following people, right? Maybe if there is too much banal banter and displays of inner retards, you are just following banal retards?

I follow people who are not retards in daily life but their tweets become just as brain sucking as the next person's.

@hilariousTED is funny. I use twitter to generate business amongst Realtors and other referral sources, and it works quite well. I use it to have social media presence with my clients. I use it now to search for news before I search google, the news online or even tribe - like I used to. If I wasn't in this business there's no way I'd be on twitter, but I think you have to be on it long enough to realize its value.

Besides, alexd, your posts on here are a lot like what you'd post on twitter- asking if the Keg is around or stufflikethat, so really it's no different.

;)

No no, it is an example really, of just being online and posting something that is on your brain, that you wanted to discuss.

Like on twitter, and facebook.

Thikn of tribe as the pre-twitter twitter without limits.

I've been offered jobs on twitter, found cool networking events to attend, and met some interesting people. It's all about who you follow and what you want to get from twitter.

Kuba, well said. I might actually create an account now and check this out.
for comedy i follow @hilariousted and @akwardjim along with many others who are really genuinely funny

ravinjunkie couldn't have said it better- it's just another way to meet people OR meet them online

by the way that news bit I said? true. the moment I hear of news I go right onto twitter, regardless what the story is (sports, world, politics etc), as the mass amount of info that generates so fast from so many angles can be amazing, as i'm not stuck or silo'd into one angle on the story

There's no question Twitter is the social equivalent of the old 'news wire'. It's where news breaks.

I have a new twitter account that is linked to my blog - so I post stuff related to science nerdiness and nature and I use it to promote that and what we are doing.

I was very skeptical at first, but I'm figuring it out and it's definitely increased traffic to the blog. And by following other science-nature people I get all kinds of ideas and cool links.

Tada.

It's really just an aggregate news reader at this point.

It's also a great place for practicing writing jokes and following comedians. I also wanna see what some friends are doing in their lives even if it's asinine. Twitter needs more porn though.

Tweeting's for twats.
Esp. the food stuff. I really don't care what you ate for lunch today.
The only thing more boring than your tweets would be my tweets.
I would only succumb to Twitter to follow Prince, who just joined.
And what is he tweeting about?
his lunch
