The Big Park

I like it! Smaller versions exist covering the Yonge subway between Summerhill and Rosedale. I guess scaling it up to cover this huge area poses different engineering challenges...

Toronto’s grand idea for huge park over railway corridor yet another Big Fabulous Idea — without the cash

We already have a giant park in the city that's less than a km away, and surrounded by water. and it has an amusement park for kids. and an airport

I am wondering if this park will be long enough for Porter to land jets...

There's so little parking in the core and its so expensive. Why aren't we building a raised parking lot in the same area??

Hopefully they structure this project less like Union Station (entirely run by the city and delaye and overbudget) and more like Waterfront Toronto (Arms length and dleivered $250 million of their projects so far early and under-budget. Yes Queens quay was over budget and late but that was mainly due to a scope change and including other city projects under it).

And even if it takes 15 to 20 years great. These things only get built if people start doing it. And this is a no-brainer that I see everyone jumping on supporting with little opposition.

cool idea but hugely expensive.
would face issues with air quality, fire safety and egress issues running diesels underground. but who knows.
fingers crossed

Its important to set realistic goals.

Why should we have serious public works investment when our mayor is obsessed with "efficiencies" to pretty much the same degree as they were during the ford era.

When mantra is your basis for policy and revenues are off the table - I guess we're left with Coca-Cola park then??

HAha im mostly writing these posts tongue in cheek

...mostly...

Road tolls for all the animals and ingrate interlopping imbeciles who skirt paying their fair share of taxes by living outside the municipality, but come here everyday for work and use the infrastructure and services. Time to build a cash wall!

Cut funding for social services, libraries are fucking outdated shit!

It's a great idea, but my only concern is how do you keep it from just becoming a giant dog toilet. It's surrounded by condos. Anyone ever see the green spaces in Liberty Village?

If they can figure out a way to keep it green and lovely, then this will be awesome. They might need to design it so it's mostly planters, installations, activation areas and benches, etc, like a big High Line. A giant green grassy area like an actual park -- I can't see that ever happening in this space for this budget.
