The Best of the DJ Mix Forum 2005

Thanks to this forum we've been given a LOT of good free music this year. Sometimes it was through a heads-up from someone with keen ears who wanted to share some music they found. Other times it was from the sharp selectors themselves who shared their mixing talent with us. But it didn't cost us anything (unless you exceeded you bandwidth month after month like some of us  :p ) so I think it's only fair that we give some props to those mixes that really stood out above the rest this year.

These are the mixes that got repeated play this year. My mp3 player saw these mixes many many times over the past months.

...in no particular order:

Spencer Daniels - Electr-ISH!

This mix is filled with some pretty hot party tracks. Bouncy, catchy, the kind of music that just makes you smile and, if you're on the bus, politely tap your foot. If you're at home you're busting out in front of the mirror while you slap on the hair gel on a Friday night.

Highlight track: Christopher Just – I’m a Disco Dancer

Kevan_Duke_-_knotty_knurz

This is the soundtrack for the party monster that builds inside you on a Friday at work. It starts off slow and odd, like a fluttering in your stomach and ends in a busted pelvis from to much rockin'.

Highlight track: Play Paul - La La Land

Trevor isoprax Wilkes - Oldschool Acid Mix - 04-16-05

I spent a lot of time with this mix over the summer, unemployed walking up and down Queen St listening to the acid in my ears while the world and I mutually igonored each other.

Highlight track: Laurent Garnier - Colored City

Rich Hope - Get It Twisted

There’s nothing I love more then a healthy dose of electro layered up like cheese dip at a party that only lasts five minutes while the bean dip goes completely neglected. However there’s very little cheese in this mix so perhaps my analogy isn’t very apt.

Highlight track: Freeform Five – No More Conversations (Mylo Mix)

Nick Theos - Level1

This might have been the mix that really turned me on to minimal tech house. Glitchy and clickly but not boring or alienating. It’s another good mix for taking a walk around the park. When you aren’t bombasted with huge bass lines or synth riffs that demand attention you can really get into your own head and think about what you’re listening too.

Highlight track: Slam- This World (Wignomy Bros Mix)

Agreed! A huge thanks to all who shared!! :) :) :)
Those sets I'm especially thankful for include:

Tyler C - Friday Night Peepshow

J-Mat - Music for Jerks

Andrew Spence (Slim) - Nu Orbit Apocalypse

Matt Dublin - Electric Boogaloo 2

Biologik - Visions

Plus... the office I used to work at would have been pretty quiet if not for the countless liquid funk sets from Soda-20Hz, --[Zirca]--, Doublerobb, 0=0, organik & Sir C so thanks to you kats as well!

Here are my picks, in no particular order.

NOTE: I purposely overlooked the "bigger DJ" sets like John B, Mat Jonson, Sasha, even Coleridge. ... I wanted to focus on locals, or people you might not have heard of before.

I'm also very dissapointed that nobody nominated my "Paint Chips" mix for best of 2005  :p

The two that Mattlok posted in the summer. Innercity life, and the Classic house set.

The one that vench and flipside did together.

As well, any of Matt Dublin's mixes are worthy of mention.
