UK facing most severe terror threat ever, warns MI5 chief

lets just keep pretending islam is a religion of peace.

For most muslims, it very much IS a religion of peace. For others - a small minority - it isn't.

Team Trump Bypassed DHS Analysts to Produce Bogus Terror Report

The document didn’t mince words. It claimed three-quarters of “international terrorism” convicts were immigrants, an assertion meant to bolster Donald Trump’s cherished Muslim-focused ban on entering the country. And the report put the claim in the mouths of an agency assembled to keep Americans safe after 9/11: the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

Working off the 549 federal international-terrorism convictions tallied by the Justice Department, the document stated: “An analysis conducted by DHS determined that approximately 73 percent (402 of these 549 individuals) were foreign-born.”

But the Department of Homeland Security did not perform that analysis. DHS’ analysts did not contribute to the highly controversial report, The Daily Beast has learned.

According to a government source familiar with the episode, Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ office took charge of the report’s assemblage of statistics—which some terrorism analysts consider highly misleading—and sent it to DHS Secretary Kirstjen M. Nielsen for her imprimatur after it was all but finalized.

“The Trump administration is trying to turn counterterrorism into an immigration issue,” said Charles Kurzman of the University of North Carolina, where he tracks Muslim-American involvement in terrorism

Wtf. The need to humanize these killers when they're white really needs to stop - I could give less of a shit if he helped an old lady across the street daily - the end result was he set off a bunch of fucking bombs.

We're going to get a list of bunch of academic or athletic achievements next. So fucking what.

ATTACK IN NAIROBI

A lux hotel in Kenya’s capital of Nairobi was the location of a terrorist attack yesterday that left multiple people dead. An official death toll has not been confirmed but it could be dozens.

What went down?
Attackers set off explosions around 3:30 p.m. that targeted three cars at a nearby bank, and then initiated a suicide blast in the lobby of the DusitD2 hotel complex. The remaining intruders then opened fire on people sitting in a café. Police sent in special forces officers to evacuate victims and secure the scene, which reportedly turned into a standoff.

Who would do this?
Somali terrorist group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for the attacks; it’s not the first time the group has wreaked havoc in Nairobi. Al-Shabab is the same group that murdered 67 people in 2013 at the nearby Westgate Mall. And yesterday’s attack took place on the three-year anniversary of the al-Shabab-led attack on a Kenyan military base, which killed 250 soldiers. Al-Shabab claims it wants revenge on Kenya for sending troops to Somalia since 2011.

Abrupt turn for America's political conversation

Saturday's shooting was personal for El Paso native Beto O'Rourke, who suspended campaigning to fly home and "be with my family and be with my hometown," AP reports:
  • O'Rourke appeared shaken as he told a union forum in Vegas that he'd heard early reports that the shooter might have had a military-style weapon, saying the country needs to "keep that (expletive) on the battlefield. Do not bring it into our communities."
Democratic candidates went online, onstage and on cable to express outrage and call for new gun limits, per AP:
  • Joe Biden said he tried to call O'Rourke and told reporters: "Enough is enough. ... This is a sickness."
  • Elizabeth Warren tweeted: "We must act now to end our country's gun violence epidemic."
  • Bernie Sanders: "All over the world, people are looking at the United States and wondering what is going on? What is the mental health situation in America?"
  • Pete Buttigieg: "We are the only country in the world with more guns than people."
  • Kamala Harris promised to use executive action to impose gun control in her first 100 days.
President Trump conveyed his initial reaction on Twitter, writing that the shooting was "terrible" and that he was in close consultation with state officials.
  • He turned to other topics, tweeting a note of encouragement to UFC fighter Colby Covington, a Trump supporter, and retweeting two messages that furthered his argument that African Americans had flourished under his administration.
  • Later, Trump tweeted condolences: "Today's shooting in El Paso, Texas was not only tragic, it was an act of cowardice."

Five people were stabbed during a Hanukkah celebration at a New York rabbi’s home

A knife-wielding man entered the home of an Orthodox Jewish rabbi Saturday night, stabbing five and screaming “I’ll get you” as people fled and barricaded themselves in the synagogue next door.

“This is violence spurred by hate, it is mass violence and I consider this an act of domestic terrorism,” New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said.

The 37-year-old male suspect was arrested within hours, covered with blood on his hands, and charged with five counts of attempted murder.

This was the 13th anti-Semitic attack in New York since Dec. 8. New Jersey was also rocked by a shooting rampage at a kosher market a few weeks ago.
