Sympatico pretty fast...

So I've had sympatico hse for about a month at home now (Rogers isn't an option, due to the fact that I live in butfuck and there's no cable here).

I'm pretty impressed with the service so far. It's never been down, and has been pretty fast overall.

I'm getting speeds of 235.2 Kbps today. Is that pretty standard compared ot other sympatico users?

No they aren't. I have mine over 100kbps all the time.

Hmmm...that's close to 2mbps, but the modems do not synch above 1mbps. Strange.

I should hope you're getting over 100kbps when analog modems are at 53kbps.

I don't understand it either, the FAQ says that you can expect speeds of up to 120 kbps depending on traffic. BUT having said that, I downloaded some shit today and I noticed it hit 230+ on average (after double clicking on the connection icon to display transmission and receipt speeds). How could that be then?

Ah, it's entirely possible access manager is miscalculating then. Here's the site to test the real transfer speed - it's right on the Bell backbone so distance isn't a factor.

I used to get over 400 when I was with Shaw, now that it's rogers, the best I have seen in the past 12 months is about 170kbps on downloads from high speed sites...

The DSL modems are capped to 1mbps, and depending on your distance from the CO, your rates will vary. I'm lucky to about a 3 minute walk from the CO, so I'm getting 1100kbps.

Sympatico doesnt cap you guys?!?! When i was with sympatico my connection was capped at 100kbps download. What the fuck?!!?
