the episode begins with the tribe returning after Tony turned on his alliance to vote out Jefra. It’s important to know right up front that with two idols, Tony should be guaranteed to make it to the final four now. He can only use them in the next two tribal councils, and two idols for two councils … well, you can do the math. Kass is angry, and as usual is taking things personally. She and Tony start arguing. What I don’t understand is why Trish is so understanding? How many times does her putative ally have to keep her out of the loop for her to decide they’re no longer allies?

The next morning, Tony, Woo and Spencer are up and discussing Tony’s life as a cop (or a construction worker, I can’t keep track of his lies anymore). At one point, Tony makes a totally innocuous comment about Kass not being up and about yet, because she’s normally an early riser. Kass, lying in the shelter with Tasha and Trish hears her name, and starts talking about how Tony just called her a b|tch. And now we get round 2 of the Tony/Kass debates. Kass says she heard what Tony called her, and Tony is rightfully confused. Spencer interviews that he knows that Kass misheard, but he’s more than happy to leave this misunderstanding alone. Tony turns angry and insists that Kass should vote for him. She says she will and that Tony should play his idol. Tony says he will and that if Kass votes for him, she’ll go home. I do not understand why Kass thinks it’s a good idea to pick a fight with the guy you know is safe, and you’re not.

On to the reward challenge, where Kass, Spencer and Woo face off against Trish, Tasha and Tony. They use beanbags to knock down their opponents’ wall of bricks and then switch to reconstruct their own wall. It ends up being Spencer vs Tasha and although Spencer is way behind early, he catches up and wins. They get to handout school supplies to kids, and Woo demonstrates his martial arts. ‘Good with kids’ is so far his only Survivor attribute. At lunch, Kass suggests that the two of them with Tasha split their votes for Tony and Trish to try and flush out the idol. Which is stupid to label it as ‘flushing it out’ when he’d be playing it at the last possible time. Woo is hesitant to commit, but as they’re returning to the tribe, he tells them he’s on board.

Tony and Trish then interrogate Woo who hides the real plan with a ridiculous story that Spencer suggested voting out Tasha. Tony doesn’t believe it and is now concerned about Woo. On to immunity which involves the survivors counting six different amounts of things and using those numbers to open a combination lock. This degenerates to the survivors running back and forth over and over again as they keep getting it wrong. Ultimately, Spencer wins. As a note, Tasha was very close and if she’d won, she’d have tied Kelly (way back from Season 1) with the most number of consecutive immunity idol wins.

Back at camp, Tasha and Kass are talking and Tasha compares Tony to Russell. And apparently that twigs Kass to reconsider her plan, because nobody votes for the jerk. What she singularly fails to realize is that she’s at least as big a jerk as far as the jury is concerned. On to tribal council where Tony talks about his bag of tricks some more. He also says the game is about ‘trust and loyalty’ which for some reason doesn’t lead to the rest of the tribe laughing at him. There’s yammering back and forth between Kass and Tony, and heaven help us all if both of these two make it to the final. That’ll be an exercise in frustration. They vote and Tony doesn’t play his idol, which is just dumb. But it doesn’t matter because Kass and Woo don’t flip and Tasha is out.

Two episodes left and the preview highlights more arguments, this time between Kass and Trish. Great. (Instructions: Please read that last word with a heavy dose of sarcasm).

tonycould have used one idol for himself and one for trish, seeing as he cant play any the next round. but I guess he wants them to think he can play his *special" idol next time.

ya, at first i thought Tony was foolish not to play his idol for Trish, but his plan of pretending the power of the special idol is it can be played at 4 people is actually pretty ingenious.

even if they don't 100% believe him, they can't really risk voting for him because the stakes are so high.

if Spencer wins the last immunity he'll take the game, otherwise Tony has an excellent chance of taking it (and i have to give him credit, he played a very solid game). Woo has an outside chance if the Jury holds grudges against Tony. Kass has no chance.

Well, that episode went about as well as it could have, given the circumstances of Tony owning every immunity idol known to mankind. Or maybe it just feels that way. This episode begins with the five survivors left getting back from voting out Tasha. Spencer asks Kass and Woo (in front of Tony and Trish) why they bothered saying they were going along with the deal to target Tony & Trish. Boy, not a lot of secrets stay secret in this season, and that will continue to be the case for this episode. Woo says nothing of any use, and Kass lies that she was messing with Spencer. Par for the course.

We then get Woo and Tony in the boat with Woo revealing everything about Spencer and Kass’ plan that failed. Tony is grateful but still interviews that he plans to backstab Woo. I think Tony (probably rightfully) believes that the jury doesn’t like Tony, as that’s the only reason to vote out Woo who has been singularly useless in this game.

On to the reward challenge which involves the survivors hurling themselves into mud and then scraping it off into a bucket in a limited period of time. The survivor with the most mud wins a pizza lunch. Normally Jeff weighs to see who wins, but in this case there is no need as Tony’s bucket is completely full, miles more than anyone else. Tony picks Trish to share the lunch with. I am then made nauseous by the sight of Tony inhaling the pizza. He’s shoving entire slices into his mouth, as though he’s a food processor rather than a normal human being. Blech. During the lunch, Tony is rolling out his newest lie: the special idol allows him to use it at the vote from 4 down to 3. Which isn’t true, but is a pretty ingenious lie if he gets away with it. I hope he doesn’t.

Tony then speaks to Kass and a) forgives her for coming up with a plan targeting Tony, and b) promises to go with her to the final 3 (because she will get no votes. At all.) Tony blathers away further promising on various family members. Kass leaves this conversation and immediately confronts Woo about spilling everything to Tony, and that Tony is still promising her final three over Woo. Tony is right there and he starts yelling at Kass who yells back. Boy, these two are so unlikeable. Tony says Kass shouldn’t tell secrets, and Kass wants to drag down Tony’s reputation. She comes out looking terrible too, though.

Then, Spencer and Kass are talking about targeting Trish, because Tony has the idols. Trish is standing right there and hears everything, but we’ll put a pin in that for now. As will Trish.

On to immunity, which involves untangling ropes, a ladder puzzle, a stair puzzle and finally a sliding tile puzzle. Tony builds a giant lead over the first three stages and he gets a ton of time on the sliding tiles … but he is absolutely clueless about how these work. He’s just flinging tiles around to no particular purpose. This allows Spencer to catch up, pass him … and win immunity again! That almost certainly saved Spencer’s life in this game, yet again.

Immediately as we return from the challenge, Trish starts laying into Kass, for being a terrible person and for being a victim, and stirring everything up and on and on and on and on and on. It goes on so long that Tony is trying to get Trish to stop. She doesn’t. Tony and Trish then get Woo to agree to vote out Kass. But then Woo agrees with Spencer and Kass to target Trish. Tony sees them talking and is worried about Woo flipping.

On to tribal where Kass and Trish drag out the whole mess yet again for the jury to see. Neither of them come out of this looking good. Tony pulls out his bag of tricks yet again pulling out his idol and wearing it, while also displaying his ‘special’ idol claiming to the group that it’s still valid after tonight. Hard to tell if anyone believes it. Everybody votes, Tony plays his idol irrelevantly for himself … and Trish is voted out. As Trish is leaving, Kass gives her the finger. Wow. Unless Kass cures cancer at the final tribal council, she has zero chance of winning this game.

There’s one episode to go. If Spencer makes it to the final, I’d say he’s a lock for the win. If he’s out, I think it’s a toss-up between Tony and Woo, depending on how much the jury dislikes Tony (i.e. the Russell Hantz conundrum). As a note, this season’s finale is next Wednesday rather than a Sunday for the first time in many many seasons, so my last recap will be in a week. Good luck!

Spencer going to bat for Tony Reminded me of the season where John or whatever his name is doing so for Natalie, thus crushing Russell Hantz in the process.

The only thing I'm sore about is we didn't get to hear anyone lay into Kass and her big fat loser ego and rocks for brains. She walked away thinking she payed the game well. UGH

When did they decide to add another immunity challenge so it turned into a final 2 instead of 3? ... I only gave a shit cause again this meant no Kass :( in the end.

Well, last night was the Survivor finale, and it was the first time since season 1 that it aired on its regular Wednesday weekday slot. We began the show with Probst live, discussing the fact that he’s live, and that he’ll be popping up live throughout the show. And that’s all you’re getting from me about these segments because they were excruciating. I don’t recap the reunion, I’m not recapping these segments. On to the actual show. Recap, recap, recap. Again, if you want to know what happened over the course of the season, feel free to reference my earlier posts. But now, we’re into the real stuff.

The final four are returning to camp after voting out Trish. And apparently Tony voted for her too. Tony explains that he was betraying the one person that has always been loyal to him, but he felt he had to. Which is entirely wrong. They had 3 votes already to get rid of Trish, Tony’s vote was irrelevant. She was out anyway, so why do that? I think the real reason is that Tony realized that the vote was going to Trish, and he didn’t want to be seen as not in control. So, he voted with everyone else. Meanwhile, there’s a boat arriving … and oh no, I really thought we’d successfully avoided a family visit this season. Yup, it’s the loved ones. We get Spencer’s sister, Kass’ husband, Woo’s cousin(? I think?), and Tony’s best friend. Tony spends the whole time complaining that it’s not his wife. The reason it’s not his wife is that they have a 4 month old baby, and not surprisingly she didn’t want to leave their child. Tony had no such compunction, though.

There’s a lot of blather, but we do get Kass telling her husband that she’s only hated for the moves she made because she’s a woman. I’m not completely discounting this, but I think it’s more the level of personal vindictiveness that Kass has shown beyond her game play. Was giving Trish the finger at tribal a ‘game move’?

On to the immunity challenge with the loved ones watching. The survivors are perched on a pole in the water, using a bucket to pour water and raise a key up to their platform. We’ve seen this before and I’ve yet to describe it very well. Once they have their key, they swim back to the beach and solve a vertical puzzle. Tony and Spencer are quick, followed by Woo. Kass is absolutely terrible on the platform. She’s slow to get water, then she misses with it. Then, she tangles her bucket up with the stick holding the key. She’s a mess and gives the other three guys a ton of time with the puzzle. But she finally succeeds, gets to the puzzle and just demolishes them. I don’t think the others were even halfway finished by the time Kass was done. A very good job by her, and she wins an important immunity. Spencer is certainly doomed.

Back at camp, Spencer pulls Tony aside. Spencer tells Tony that based on Jeff’s talking at the previous immunity, that it’s going to be a final 2, not a final 3. And if that’s the case, Kass will take Woo, and Woo will take Kass, and therefore Tony will be screwed. Spencer says that if Tony saves him now, then Kass would take Tony, and Tony would have a 2/3 shot of making the final, instead of just a 1/3 shot. This appears to give Tony pause. Spencer just wants a tie to give him a shot against Woo. There’s an amusing bit where Woo is absolutely clueless about what would happen in the event of a tie. It’s the sort of thing that would usually be edited out, but this was just so perfect (and perfectly sums Woo up as a pleasant dolt).

On to tribal, where Spencer makes explicitly clear that if he survives tonight because of Tony, then Spencer will guarantee he’ll take Tony to the final and that the jury shouldn’t vote for him if he goes back on his word. We also get Kass admitting that she’d take Woo to the final over Tony. Tony is thrown, but whatever. They vote, then Tony makes a big deal about how his special idol is actually worthless. (But this was irrelevant once Spencer lost immunity). Sadly, Spencer is eliminated.

Next we get Kass and Woo confirming they will take each other to the final. Woo says that he would have to be the dumbest survivor if he takes Tony to the end. Remember that. (The show definitely will.) On to the final immunity, with a giant maze filled with turnstiles, some of which move and some don’t. They have to retrieve 4 medallions from the maze which will open their chest and release a bunch of different sized cogs to solve a puzzle. Kass takes an early lead, but then falls behind in the maze. Woo and then Tony move on to the puzzle first and Woo is closing in on the win. Kass gets to the puzzle and once again she’s very quick. Both of them finish right on top of each other, but Woo is just a little bit quicker and wins! Here’s something funny to think about. If Kass had won, she’d have taken Woo, and … well, we’ll get to that.

Back at camp, Tony takes Woo aside and says that if he takes Kass over Tony, then Woo can’t play the honesty and integrity card at tribal, because he’d be turning on his ally. (To which my reply would be ‘So?’). Kass tells Woo more of what they’ve both been saying all along, that taking Kass makes more sense than taking Tony. Woo doesn’t commit to anything to either of them.

On to tribal and Woo cuts it off, saying he’d like to get to the vote (where he’s the only one voting). And he takes Tony!!!! Kass and the jury are all flummoxed. Now it’s Tony vs Woo. Woo thinks it’s more honorable to take the stronger competitor, and that he can use this to his advantage in front of the jury. Which is dumb. If the one thing you’re going to argue in front of the jury is that your sole big move was something really stupid, then … I wish you well. While I’m spending the million.

We get breakfast for the two finalists, and Tony finding one last clue that he can hide. Of course it’s just a note pointing them towards a scale, but whatever makes him happy. On to the final tribal. Tony says he’s looking forward to the jury’s questions and everything he did was strategic. Woo talks about the ideals of Tae Kwan Do and his sick mother. Ugh.

Sarah’s upset that Tony swore on his badge, and she asks Woo who he’d vote for if she was in his place. Woo says her (surprise). Jefra wants Tony to own his game and admit he was a villain. Tony is backpedaling and saying he was half and half but not really a villain. It’s a terrible answer from Tony. At this point, I thought Tony was floundering and in danger of losing. Morgan was an idiot who again talked about how pretty she is and how she can control men, and then segues to Tony controlling guys too. Morgan also compliments Woo on taking Tony. Jeremiah is upset that Tony swore on his wife and kid, and thinks that would only be ok if he lied about having a wife and kid in the first place. Huh? Anyway, Tony wasn’t lying about having a wife and kid so that makes him a bad person, or something. Jeremiah asks Woo if he wants to win, and Woo says yes. Jeremiah is an idiot. Tasha asks Tony how he kept his alliance with him when he kept backstabbing them one after another. Tony says he only backstabbed Trish. Wow, he is demented.

With LJ, Tony outlines his plan whereby if LJ talked about voting out Woo, then it was ok for Tony to turn on LJ. And he admits that he engineered it by lying about Woo in the first place. LJ is flabbergasted and just wants Tony to admit (again) that he backstabbed him. Tony doesn’t think he did. Kass thinks Woo is stupid for taking Tony, and Woo says he didn’t think Kass deserved to be in the final. Wow, that was dumb. Trish is extremely upset that Tony swore on his dead father’s grave. Ok, digresionnary rant time. There are two types of survivor players, those that are willing to lie, and those that aren’t. If you have a player that is willing to lie, there are no special words you can use to force them to tell the truth. Swearing on your wife, your child, your parents, God, Mother Earth, the Great Spaghetti Monster, it all means the same to these players. They’re just words. Trish knew that Tony had lied when he swore on his wife and kid, but then was angry that he lied when swearing on his dead father. I’m sorry, Trish but that makes you the idiot here. Trish then asks Tony, yes or no, was it worth sacrificing your dead father to win a million dollars. Tony tries to interject, but Trish just wants yes or no. Tony says yes. I have no idea if that’s the right answer, as far as Trish is concerned.

Finally, we have Spencer. He begins by comparing Woo to a dog that routinely does what his master Tony wants. And when he finally had the chance to do something on his own, he stuck with Tony. Woo asks if Spencer would have respected Woo for taking someone non-deserving and Spencer is emphatic in saying yes. Spencer then addresses the jury and puts the case for Tony way, way better than Tony has so far. Tony played the game aggressively, found three idols, was behind all the big moves. He played his alliance really well, and blindsided them repeatedly, but still kept them with him. Spencer asks the jury to vote for Tony’s gameplay which was far far superior to Woo. I wish, wish, wish Jeff had asked in the reunion show whether Spencer’s appeal actually changed votes or not. But he didn’t. Jeff is a terrible reunion host.

That’s it, people vote. We see Spencer vote for Tony, because we have seen Spencer’s vote at every tribal so why stop now? We’re back live and Jeff is reading the votes, Tony, Woo, Tony, Tony and with no second vote there for Woo, we know it’s a runaway win. And that’s it. Tony wins over a terrible player.

Easily the most enjoyable season since Russell's 1st go-round.

Tony deserved to win 100% but I did think Woo taking Tony could have swayed some votes. I believe Woo believes he did the right thing & it's admirable for him to want to go to the finals with the best player. If he beats him, he truly deserved to win. Does anybody think Woo should have won over Tony?

I'm sure we'll see Woo in a future season - and he'll get voted out 1st, lol.
