Survivor 10

every season has the same plot twists as before. they try to switch it up a wee bit, but generally it's the same ish, over and over and over again. the last season was probably the most anti-climatic season of all. total snooze.

look. who needs cheesy twists? people who watch programming for twists are like people who buy extended warranties. stupid. being sucked in my cheesy marketing is all it is.

survivor's got a great format. it works well, and the outcome is variable enough to keep it interesting. okay, change the format a little from time to time. even the price is right gets a new game every once in a while. but for the most part i totally dig it the way it is, and would like to see it stay that way, and on tv for some time to come.

Agreed on all accounts.

I think that this one suffered from the all-stars hangover. All-stars was so awesome that anything that came right after it would pale.

i really love the "format" of picking two token minorities.

im glad that after 10 seasons, we are still limiting the number of racial minorities on this show to two, despite having raised the numbers of contestants in general from 16 to 20.

twists be damned, let's continue white domination!

besides, the idea of people gettting lost and having to survive is an inherently white phenomenon.

it makes the visits to the "exotic, primative areas" less complicated too. its easier to understand the western colonialist interpretation of the "orient" as wild, untamed and less advanced when the contestants visit so-called native "voodoo" tribes. if there were more minotirities, we would confuse the two. "which is the dumb working class black guy?" "which is the crazy witch doctor?!" "it doesn't matter, they are both inferior to the whites!"

huhu, that was the most jumbled academic jargon i could think of in 2 seconds.

anyway, white people aer hot and i hope the homos get it on. 10 seasons and the heteros ain't gotten it on...but homos ain't got NO dignity. a tropical island is like a dark, cruisy park at night except there are no drunk teenagers waiting to bash your head in

suck that fucker dry! woot.

Although I do like survivor I do agree with this.

Different format?

Mark Burnett has come up with several twists to keep "Survivor" fresh as the CBS reality franchise prepares to start its 10th edition next month.

Eye today will announce a Feb. 17 start date for "Survivor: Palau," the latest winter premiere date for the unscripted island drama since 2002. Skein's eighth edition bowed Feb. 1, while in 2001, the show premiered on Feb. 13.

Delayed launch is designed to maximize the number of "Survivor" hours CBS can schedule during the all-important May sweeps, which this year could also determine the winner of the 2004-05 race for demo supremacy.

On the creative front, the first episode of "Survivor: Palau" will start with 20 contestants and end with only 17.

"They're given very little instruction about what to do, and some of them are genuinely lost," Burnett said. "Two people don't make it to the first challenge. That's how tough it is. It's very emotional."

Burnett said the two early casualties aren't flukes.

"It was all by design," he said. "You have this situation now where everyone thinks they know more about the rules and format than we do. I wanted to see what happens by completely revamping the way of starting (the show).

"My job as showrunner, like if I were on a drama, is to come up with plot twists," he added. Producer indicated other twists were in store, but declined to offer specifics.

Twenty contestants on "Survivor: Palau" are a young lot, with 14 players in the 18-34 demo (and 11 under 30). Oldest player is 55; most interesting occupation is a Las Vegas showgirl (her name is Janu).

Burnett, meanwhile, said the recent tsunami disaster in the Indian Ocean has had an impact on "Survivor."

Just a few months ago, "We were scouting locations in Madagascar, southern India, Sri Lanka. We had a real focus on the Indian Ocean," he said. "Clearly, now, that won't be happening."

Burnett, as always, has a busy 2005 slate.

He's prepping for next week's third season bow of "The Apprentice" and next month's premiere of "The Contender," both on NBC.

Also in pre-production is his music-based competish for CBS, "Rock Star" (Daily Variety, June 8). Burnett will produce nearly 40 episodes of the show, which he said will air three times per week this summer.

Burnett is also planning for his syndie revamp of "Martha Stewart Living" (Daily Variety, May 14).

Great episode tonight - there are tons of good characters this time around. this one grabbed me more than the early on of the last one.

They always advertise that things will be totally different...

So they kicked off 2 people right away, then went into the normal tribes!!! oh yeah... and wow, they get to share the same beach

The episode wasn't bad though, they certainly have another cast of crazy characters.

Angie is cute. Although she needs to shape up. What Coby did to her was so shiesty. He needs out.

We got a TV for the house finally & I didn't even realize today was the first of survivor. WHOOOHOO !!

The god Jo left although I'm surprised they didn't keep her on cos she's pretty strong, could have won the immunity but then again she could have also gotten immunity herself and manipulated enough people to stay on.

I'm not really into Survivor anymore but I have a feeling that since I watched tonights episode, I'll most likely watch the rest of or most of the season.

I had a feeling that Jo would get kicked off. she was being too bossy about having to take everything with them. the other team tackled that task much better imo.

anyways... liked the different spin on the beginning with two people going home right away. that English teacher seemed as if she was going to be one annoying woman.

nice location!!
