Summer Job Resource Thread...

Usually by now my work for looking for a job for the summer has paid off - however this year I can't seem to land anything! I have a strong resume/references which usually helps me out. Yet here I am - It's already March, I have a total of zero interviews lined up and I'm starting to panic. IS it just me or is there a lack of jobs this year? I don't want to be stuck toiling for 6.85 an hour either.

I don't want to get stuck scrambling during exams trying to hook something up.

I'm sure with the number of university people on here, this is a common theme. So this thread is to share good job posting websites, places to fax for free, places that are hiring for the summer, etc.

Oh yeah - So far I've been looking mainly for office jobs.

Although Im starting to think that it's be cool to do something outside like scurity or landscaping or construction. I've also entertained the idea of trying to get a job at a factory. Basically I'm just trying to find something that pays 14 bucks an hour or up, and is downtown or that isn't too far from there. I also wouldn't be able to start until at least April 29th. Hours aren't really a big thing for me, I can work wonky hours. Does anyone know what the employment opportunities are like for stuff like that?

I've also thought of driving a truck for something - I love driving, so I think it's be a cool job...

On a side note, Does anyone know how much Manpower jobs pay? I know in Guelph they were mostly only like 8.50 an hour, but I'm thinking that in Toronto they might be higher...

I've also tried looking at being a beer rep - but I can't find any info on Labatt's/Molson's, etc, websites..

I'm also looking for a summer job..
But I won't even know until the end of the month if I've been accepted to the french immersion program I applied to or not. If I'm accepted, I won't be here for July, if not.. well.. I reeeeally need a job.

I am also so screwed for a summer job.
And I don't really know what to do or how to go about doing it..I wouldn't mind working in landscaping or anything like that either..
I am just poorly educated in knowing how to find a job..

all i know about are jobs that blow

Team Industrial Services offers a wide selection of awful industrial cleaning positions which pay about 20 dollars an hour:

Team Industrial Services
25 Bodrington Court
Markham, ON L6G1B6 905-940-9334

They usually hire alot of people for contract work..

If your in London apply at Sykes if you don't mind telemarketing, it pays okay, and they hire about 30 people a month.

i've been lazy and haven't started looking mainly because i don't know where to start. i'm not looking for a job, i need some sort of workstudy type thing since i already have a job that i know i can deal with. so basically i need to toil away for no money whatesoever. and it has to be somehow related to the fashion industry. i need 600 hours before i graduate. and NO, i don't want to do retail. buying? cool. visual merchandising? cool. and i know retail is a great way to get in blahblahblah but i'd rather learn something more interesting and not get paid than do that. anyways, if anyone has any suggestions of where to look, i would be a happy bunny (especially anything to do with magazine stuff)
that is all.

What are you cleaning exactly? Is it some toxic waste that's gonna give you cancer in 5 years? The pay is not bad though.

mon dieu...you really have had the world's worst jobs!

eitherway, if anyone's in brampton and looking for a summer job (could lead to part time during the school year) that pays 12.00$ (with a decent discount on clothes), mail or icq me (the infoz are in my profile).

Hey tella..

What kind of job would it be on brampton? I live in Mississauga..

It won't show your email in the profile and my icq has a bug and won't let me add people...

So can you either post your email, or email me at dancincri@yahoo.ca or icq 32785932? :)

Thanx

Nothing beats a fat paycheque accompanied by a spontaneously generated third testicle and an abundance of thick brown liquid dripping from your aural cavities.

i need a ....'job'

i cleaned the paint facility at ford with these little sticky yellow cloths, super powered vacuums, and covered the floor in some kind of shiny chemical.

needless to say, my penis mutated and grew to an enourmous size.

ladies?

GRRRRR.
Kevin, apply to the library NOW. We're looking of pages in the summer cuz a lot of us want to get higher positions so there will be vacancies.

APPLY NOW and you should get a call in time for when school ends!

And I'm not taking my camp job if I get any of the three promotions I applied for. So if you wanna teach video art to children, let me know. It's in Scarlem tho.

call the Richmark Group. 416-934-9730. they are recruiters for the fashion industry... about 10 people at my work now got their jobs through them.
my contact there was a woman named Sari...i think she is gone tho. ask for Mark.
they may be able to find you a contract position.

call the Bay Buying Office....(can't remember the phone number!)
ask for Brooke Ferguson....she works in HR and did all the placements for our coops (i did my coop in the buying office)

good luck!

In what area does most of your experience lie? Here are a few resources that may help:

Youth Employment Service

- Access to free photocopying, faxing and internet access.
- Councilling and job referrels.

www.yes.on.ca

Summer Experience Program

- I know the government has various summer experience programs for students.
- Sometimes they offer potential employers a kick-back which is a good marketing tool for you.

http://www.gov.on.ca/mbs/english/summer/exp_app.html

AppleOne Employment Services

- Temporary agency.
- Good rates, lots of positions downtown.

www.appleone.com

Pinstripe

- Temporary agency.
- Good rates, positions downtown, office is downtown.

www.pinstripegroup.net

Hope that helps!
