Summer dread...

It's been a month since I applied for these positions internally and they still haven't called me back.

I called to do follow-ups but I got fax machines and answering machines.

My whole summer depends on whether I work or not.
This fucking sucks. I am so stressed out by all this. I can't my home situation anymore and I need any of these positions to move out. Plus, they're great jobs.

One girl left to do one of the positions and her hours are up for grabs. The chick with the highest seniority too ALL of them.

I know this is kind of bad but I really don't feel like sitting on my ass all summer. Is anyone else having problems finding summer work?

I'll have to start hustling again....

PLEASE GOD! I WANT THESE JOBS!

I don't wanna go from working in public services/social work to blowing married guys in High Park for money.

Whether you've done them already or not, it's ALL about the follow-ups. Until they say no thanks, keep calling them.

That's what a lot of people have been telling me. Should I be calling the people who interviewed me? Cuz that's what I did...

But then others have told me that calling makes you look desperate. And it gives them more work to do...

My coworker got the position and she didn't even call them. She even said, "I don't even want this job. Ick." But she took it anyway.

FOCKER.

I've had a few jobs in the past, if it were not for follow-up calls/visits, I would not have gotten the job. So many people apply, make yourself different. If it bothers them, so be it. But I think you'll have a better chance than sitting around waiting for them to pick you from the list of people and call you.

making follow up calls

ok guys, i know this sounds really dumb, but i don't have much job search experience.

what do you typically say to the interviewer/HR person in a follow up call?

i'd like to know a few guidelines before trying it out so i don't make myself look like a big idiot.

thanks.

"Hi Mrs Hiring Lady, this is Joe Bloggs calling, I'm just following up with regards to a resume I left with you on Tuesday and I'm wondering ___

<depending on how confident you feel>
A) When you'd like to schedule an interview
B) If you had any questions or you'd like to discuss some of my qualifications in person
C) When my start date is :D (just kidding)

That's how I do it anyways, it's really difficult actually reaching that person for afollow up call I find.

LOL Those are harder, but really I'm not sure they matter so much as for a formality, if they want you a follow up call isn't neccessary, they'll call you, and if hey don't.... *crickets chirping* :)

I dunno, if I were to make something up I'd say follow the same basic lines...

"Hi, I interviewd with you a few days ago (give them 2 or 3 days because they may be interviewing a lot) and I was wondering if you had any further questions or if you'd like me to come in for a second interview."

It's pushing my luck (or it feels that way) but I always ask when I might be getting a call at the end of the interview... I'd say wait at least that long before call backs.

I'm in the process of looking for a job at the moment myself. Stupid quarter end layoffs. :(
