Speeding Ticket... PLEASE HELP!

Bah, I'm going to Pointts at lunch. This is ticket #3 in three years, and I really dont feel like taking the insurance hit on two different policies. If all else fails, I was going to switch insurance companies in a month, but I'll just do it now before I plead guilty and pay the ticket.

I don't have anything much to add except for all the wankers who end up at my front counter wanting to appeal speeding tickets from three years ago to the Court of Appeal usually ruin my day. Buddy.... the panel (three judges) will only agree to hear you case if it is in the general interest of the public a mis justice was done. They don't care that you lost three points and your insurace is doubling.

3. So lets say I go set a court date, I go to court, but then have no defence because I'm just hoping the cop doesnt show or something. Will the judge yell at me or anything?

Pointts wants 345 bucks.

x-copper. You'll end up paying about the same just without the points. I swore by them when I drove.

well if you remember what the cop looks like and you don't see him in court you've scored
and remember the cop doesn't have to be in uniform
if you do see him, you can always bargain with the prosecutor up until the hearing starts

my court experience was nerve-racking
i was the last one called
kept worrying the cop would show at the last second, but he didn't

if i get any more speeding tickets in future (which i don't plan on doing)
i will ALWAYS go to court

If it was an OPP officer who gave you the ticket--THEY WILL GO TO COURT BECAUSE THEY SCHEDULE TIME TO BE THERE.

If it was Metro Toronto---maybe your chances are better at them not showing up.

Anyways good luck with that......

do NOT plead guilty.
if nothing else, go see a jp and just give a reason, any reason, and they'll probably knock shit down.

its not for the fine or the points.
the insurance will screw you right round.

pm me if you want that "fighting your speeding tickets" link.
i've got it saved. ;)

edit - didn't read how fast you were going, so i can't comment on whether i think you "should" be penalized, but anyway...

Thing is that there is no room to plead down my ticket. It's only $50 and no points. The issue is when insurance wants to ass fuck me hard on both car and motorcycle policies.

If a judge convicts me, do they charge me court fees or anything?

I'm not sure of the procedures for the traffic court. I deal with the higher courts. It says on the back of the ticket no?

If you get convicted you will have to do what the sentence (ticket says) pay the 50 dollars by the deadline. If convicted you still have the right to appeal.... but you must do so within 30 days.

You need some grounds to go to court with as mentiioned. So you have an argument. You can't just show up hope the cop doesn't come because they show up a lot (contrary to what everyone tells you)

Nick, I'm using Pointts to fight my ticket I got in December. My court date just got pushed back till October 7th, so I cant really tell you if it was worth the $300 or not.

Also, he already knows he broke the law and did something wrong, now he's trying to get some help on how to fix his mistake. Nobody's perfect, jesus.

All this "you broke the law, its your fault" bullshit isnt helping him, so fuck off. He knows that already.

He already knocked your ticket down so you didn't have to go to court , might as well end up there anyways.

In other news I got a loan from the bank and don't feel like paying it back. Can anyone recommend a lawyer who will fight for me? Or should I just take the bank to court and hope they don't show up?

If you read his first post he admits to being guilty. Or does that not count?

no, he admits to be being told he was guilty by the officer.

it might be argumentative, and it might not, but the principle is important - he actually isn't guilty until he's proven so, or waives his legal right(and imo, a responsibility) to defend what is, in reality, an accusation of guilt.

there is a difference between law enforcement and justice enforcement.

And what about abuse of the system? The cost to taxpayers is higher than the fucking $300 this guy is going to save. Im not going to sit here and advocate wasting public money because he doesnt want his insurance to go up.
