The party was hype.

Dillinja was sick. Most went there not expecting to hear the greatest mixing as he is more known for his super producing skills than his djing ability. The mixing wasn't as bad as people were saying it would be. He actually did some pretty cool shit on the mixer at times. You can tell he knows how to work with sound. His selection was ill. It was totally how I expected his set to be.

i actually had a spankin' good time...i danced my ass off for five hours (sober!!!).

coat check line was a bitch...

kulkat it was so nice to meet you! go girl!
mofo and airbag always a pleasure.

it was hard to get into dillinja's set because of the constant reloads.

and people were being kinda rude with all the elbows and whatnot in my face.

I had a pretty good time & I liked most of my set.
I spun from 11:30 - 12:30
The emipre/numb people usually record the sets of the dj's
so Ill get a chance to hear it and judge properly soon enough.

the party was very full
I never did find the outside tent.
but I got madd valentines day luvin!!!
even got a card
smile.gif

I enjoyed czech set also.
When I was JOE~raver
back when I was living in vancouver (93)
He was the only dJ that stood out.
Now years later I still enjoy watching him dJ...
and saying "mmmmmm... can I do that yet?
props to czech & to John E as well..
for not letting those old break tunes die.
Im surprised I didnt hear anything off the DUBHOUSE label.

I also loved the vip room.
Ive never seen one before at the docks.
if you had a VIP pass.. and ID
there was that (3rd room usually) room near the entrance.
full bar.... with video/audio feed of the main stage.
sick.. I spent about an hour in there after my set.

dJ funk? missed most of his set.
I thought kamakazi could eattin him alive,
BUT... at the same time.. without dJ funk,.
who's music would kamakazi spin???
props to producer-funk,... work-it work-it.

thats was about it..
I left just before 5:30
good times...thankyou amber & ryan.

I just wrote a long review but my internet messed up. Well all i have to say is the obvious problems aroose for this party considering that promotors have a long list consisting of one venue they can use for a party this size.

I don't know what everyone else was expecting from Dillinja but i think he represented proper last night with a sick play list and decent mixing. I think we set ourselves up for disappointment with these djs from the U.K. I thought it was a clean set and was exactly what i was expecting.

Lush and L natural tore it up i never expected anything like that from them mad respect for that set.

Marcus......... well nothing more i can say there except i loved that reggea he threw down after and Friendly Man held it down on the mic.

Respect to the Hustling Beats crew for the party but i am bitter because my camera is broken after this party....

It's a good thing that camera only cost 700$+ =)

I did not bring any valuables with me, even took off my diamond necklase for fear of getting jumped and it ripped off my neck.

I was having a great time.
I was in the Tent.
And Ray Keith was rocking.
And the booty room.
And Kamikaze and Marty were throwing down.
Then I went to the drum n bass room.
Then I wanted to tear my face off.
Although I'm sure that some of those people would have gladly done it for me.
Dillinja was horrible.
All I heard was random grinding noises.
Followed by screaming Mc's.
What a big crock of shit.
Then people started fighting.
Probably because they were being forced into pretending that shit was actually good.
And they couldn't take it anymore.
Or mabye because they wanted to leave.
And getting kicked out was the only possible way to actually make their way to the front doors.
I decided it was time to go home.
And leave that infernal hole.
And I went to get my coat.
And John E was throwing down in the other room.
And everyone was happy.
And everyone was dancing.
And I wasnt upset anymore.
But I still left.
I liked SC 2, I like Droppin Beats and One Sound.
But last night was crap.
It wasn't the promoters fault.
It was just crap.

The grinding of my teeth was due to the stress of being in that room. Not any illicit illegal narcotics.

Helloooooo.. McFly... it's a fucking Rave, not a poetry reading. And you've got two of the top UK jungle DJ's in the world. Expect the place to be rammed. At three o'clock the place EMPTIED and there was plenty of room to dance. Probably when all you whiners went home..

"Wah Wah! Too many underage kids"
I'm presuming you can read, but stop me if I'm wrong. The flyer did say ALL AGES in big letters on it. You should know that an event like that would draw a lot of kiddies. True, I don't like seeing them all cracked out, but again, Rave, not poetry reading.

People need to STFU with the bitching and give some respect to the people who put together what I would call the best Jungle party to hit Toronto in a long time. Best lineup, awesome idea having the tented 19+ area, pretty good soundsystem, and overall, a wicked night. Much respect to Ruckus, and all of the Empire and TOV crew for organizing such a wicked night. Any of the real heads out there probably had a blast like I did.

This is a review thread. If the event had cons, then people should voice it. That's what this whole section is for. It's not for kissing promoters' asses.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">"Wah Wah! I had to stand in line for coat check" Solution: Leave your coat in the fucking car. The line up outside only took ten minutes to get in.</font>

Did you do that? Wow, you must have flesh as thick as your thick skull. I guess the coatcheck line was the price I had to pay to not get pneumonia.

There shouldn't have been a line because there shouldn't have been a tent area. They should've designated more 19+ areas in the actual club or made more tents. It's ridiculous to not be able to have a drink while I'm at the event but to go to a freezing tent.

<font face="Verdana, Arial" size="2">"Wah Wah! It was too crowded"

Actually, we left around 6 am and I didn't only sat once in the entire night. My ass was shaking the whole night (especially for the breaks), even in the coatcheck line. But the place was too rammed. Did you get to have at least an hour of solid dancing for Ray Keith or Lush? Cuz I certainly didn't.

Well, that's the problem. There were fake IDs aplenty and I didn't say there were too many kids. I said there were too many kids on drugs, passing out and being snotty little assholes. I was once 16 too and raving, you know. And I didn't like the sketchiness back then, and I don't like it now.

Pffft. I don't know what jungle parties you've been to but I can think of a million events I've been to better than that one such as the Vital parties at B-Side and Roxy Blu. Even Audiowerks on Friday kicked Empire's ass. I still had fun. I paid for it, I might as well make the most out of it.

Empire, you guys definitely had the lineup and the venue down. Much respect for sharing the music. But I'm sure they couldn't help the other cons not caused by the promoters.

OH YEAH, now I remember! It was you Mr. Marty McFly.

You're amazing. I think I had the best time shaking booty to your set in the coatcheck line. So fucking funky, so ecclectic and so frickin' diverse.

I heard Beastie Boys, Planet Soul, Josh Wink, Czech... nice job.
I don't think I've ever heard you spin so I'm anxious to go to something where you're at. Much respect to the local talent.

yeah, marty mcfly's set was great. i don't even like breaks but i couldn't help jiggling a wee bit.

people who are saying that the cons weren't the promoters' fault, don't you guys think they let too many people in? i don't know how anyone can have a good time when they're getting jostled every 30 seconds by little thuggy bitches who want to act rough.

does anyone know what that song was called that ray keith dropped with the long-ish melodic intro, with strings and shit, with the really nice kinda breathy girl vocal? that was a fly song. that was the one time through the whole night i could ignore the legions of dirts rolling around in their own filth.

Stop frontin'. You LOVED it. Not only does Jane love house, she loves breaks too.

And I never thought of that. Maybe that was bad that they overpacked it. I mean, I didn't mind that it was all ages just because if I was 18 and I loved Dillinja, I would've liked to have gone. But maybe they should've just had a certain block of tix to sell and if one didn't get his/her, tough shit.

So Jane, are u saying that Empire packed it because of the dollar signs in their eyes? Can big clubs break capacity rules without really getting in trouble?

First off I'd like to say for my first DJ Funk experience, it was "shite in my mouff". I mean alright, booty house "RA RA RA" but for someone to trainwreck so many tracks and misjudge that many tracks in a row! That is a sign of either laziness, bad DJing, or drugs. I would have to say DJ Funk will never again sway me into comming to a party, end of story!

Jungle. Now, alright Toronto. We are supposed to be #1 for this scene in North America, playing the tightest shit, and bringing the best talent right? Why then does it always seem as though the commercial tracks are being given more praise then anything else? Every song I heard spun thats on my Goldie.co.uk CD was either rewound, spun multiple times, or was given a "lighta ovation". I'm no wiseguy with jungle, but I would have to say, from what I know it seems to me a lot of the "jungle heads" there didnt really seem to know what the good underground shit was. I heard some amazing tracks that a few of my friends know, but were given no recognition by the crowd.

Must be me then eh? Anyways, good times, everyone had fun. WAY TOO PACKED but cleared later on. Too much sausage, no real vibe, and most of all...too many sitters!

PEEEEESH!

I think this was a sick ass party. For those who like all the commercial stuff then for sure you didn't like Dillinja's set. But for those of you who are like me and like some new tunes with some sickass BASELINES, then Dillinja's set was pretty sicky. I'll admit there were a lot of rewinds n shit but you always get that with big MC's.

All in all I think we should have some Big parties with NO MC's at all. I haven't been to a party without an MC in years. Ray Keiths set was good, but it was all commercial tracks. Respects to Dillinja for spinnin some DIFFERENT tracks. So far every Soundclash has been a pretty good experience, Keep it real Empire

First off, a little something for the grinch.

Wah Wah! I had to stand in line for coat check
Wah Wah! I had to stand in line for 19+
Wah Wah! It was too crowded
Wah Wah! Too many underage kids

Yeah, this was a reminder about why I don't go to big sweaty raves with any frequency any longer. It was fun for a while, but I have been spoiled, and the Toronto crowd is lucky enough to be very picky about such things. Although the crowd was full of uglies, I managed to focus on the music, so here's my real review of the music:

Robb G: Listened to his set while waiting in the mammoth coat check line, and if it wasn't for him, the night would have been completely miserable. He had me shakin my ass and kept me entertained to my delight.

Toronto Jungle Locals: Catchin' Wreck opened up for the headliners, and held the fort down like they do properly. You've come a long way, baby.

Ray Keith: Started off a little slow, with a lot of last year's hits... At first I was disappointed 'cause it seemed like he brought the same records as he had at WEMF. But the dubs came out later in the set, and as always, his mixing was tight and teasing. MC Navigator was fabulous, and he represented the Freestylers in a great way.

FUNK: Got a big dick, apparently. But he rocked trainwreck after trainwreck. He might as well have been mixing with that big cock we all hear so much about. I love the booty house though... Fun fun fun.

Dillinja: Man, the crowd got so packed for Supa D's set, and he obliged by bringing out a mitt full of dubplates. I've been waiting years to see him, and it's what I absolutely expected from him... mediocre mixes and fucking detrimental basslines throughout. What a record collection. And the MC'ing was hyper too... navigator b2b GQ b2b L Natural. Yooooo. The flow was kickin, but L Natural is a constant rewind-caller, which blows it a little sometimes. No complaints about Dillinja though. I knew his mixing wouldn't be prime because he's primarily a producer. And the tracks he does produce are killer. I had a great time, and was delighted to see someone finally bring in dillinja. (Not only that, but I was sitting on a subwoofer for most of the set... thank god I had ear plugs because the basslines are THICK)

TBK in effect: had there been more room, I would have spent more time chatting and dancing. However mostly all I was afforded was a passing wave and smile. Cheers to Sunny, Alex, Jane, Ryan and Kenny. I think that's everyone I saw last night.

Righty ho. No more big sweaty raves for me. (I'll say that again in a few months, no doubt.)

Cheers. -Duncan

....to sum it up I had a good night...only downfall was the coat check line up..wanted to drop my jacket and start partying right away...and maybe too many people?!.....was really into ray keiths set but i spent more time moving for people than getting my groove on in that room...so spent most of my time in the other room dancing to booty and breaks.....yummmm breaks were good...lost track of the lineup though so I don't remember who's set i really liked....shit...didn't like the 19+ area either....was cold in there!... overall, i would consider it a good experience and i'd definately go again
biggrin.gif

to the crew i went there with....air-bag (thanx for the ride

), kul-kat and mofo....i lost you guys for quite a while!
frown.gif

Seems like this was a rave homecoming for a lot of people. I haven't been to one of these things in a looong time. And last night made me remember exactly why. The pushing, the shoving... oi, it never ends.

Music wise -- I got there when Marty was just getting off. From what I heard, he played a good set. I don't know why people always pick on him and complain. There are technical DJ's, and then there are crowd pleasers. Marty is definetly the latter. And he's pretty damn good at it.

Kamikaze was next.... I'm not really into that stuff. Too hard to be funky, and not deep enough to be techno. Bla.

DJ Funk was pretty good at the beginning, but deteriorated into boring repetition later on. Unless bootey starts evolving, it will go the way of happy hardcore. Sad but true.

John E -- very nice. The guy is a total pro. I'm not a big fan of his style, but he gets tonnes of respect for being a damn good DJ.

As for Czech, I like him when he plays his signature all-out anthem sets. But once in a while he goes into this weird, dark downtempoish retro mode, and things get unpleasant. There is definetly a time and place for that.... but 5 AM, at a rave packed with 16 year olds is not it. Oh well.

It's going to be a looong time before I come out to one of these things again. I've come to realize that what I look for in a party now has completely changed from my raver days. The hassle of it all just tends to get in the way of enjoying the music.

Either that or I'm just getting old.

What a shite party. I still don't know how or why I convinced myself that I would have fun, but really what did I expect? The breaks were dissapointing at best and the booty was annoying--fun for a possible 10 minutes and then far too much. I went for Ray Keith and Dillinja and was bored out of my mind. Ray Keith was boring and uninspiring and by the time Dillinja came on I was so frustrated by the whole night that I just didn't care. The one thing I found that was okay about the party were the line-ups, not too long at all, though the 19+ one was a bit much as it drew nearer to 2am. Good to see some people I hadn't seen in a while but that was the extent of my enjoyment for the evening. Too hot, too many people, boring music...bah*

Hopefully Bittersweet is better...

Well, you do own Moore's clothing.

Gunark, you can't dress like that (lil' graf shirt, baggy pants and surplus hat), smile at me like that and talk to me in that Polish accent and get away with it. I had to hose myself down when I got home.
