Sound Proofing a room...

Where abouts can I get the egg carton foam. My brother told me that the ones for the bed is just as good. But thats an ugly colour I want grey obviously. Any idea where abouts I can get a hold of it. And how much does it cost. Feel i don't need to research it as I can depend on tribe for guidance and assistance.

Thanks

you need to make the distinction between sound proofing, and sound deadening.

sound deadening makes it sound quiet inside the room (ie eggshells, foam etc.)

soundproofing makes it quiet outside of the room (you can use mattresses, layered duvets, etc. just make sure you cover em up so it looks pretty).

Sound proofing is done to prevent exogenous sound from entering the room. So that you don't record your cat meowing or cars honking when recording with a microphone.

Acoustic treatment is to dampen the reverberations off the walls. of the studio to get an acoustically "dead" room. It's still not clear which one he's trying to achieve.

Pretty sure he's looking for a good room to make tranny porn and not worry about neighbours complaining about the strange asexual grunts and screams.

yeah, I imagine it would. We are using it at work, so the band can practice during the day while classes are on. hmmm

DO NOT cover your room in egg cartons, no matter what you do. The real stuff is like $250 a slab. Acoustic tile is expensive, but a worthy investment if you're serious about recording.

Yes and thank you to what Jay K said.

This thread is funny along with the funny suggestions.

G-FResh [dave?] http://arts.ucsc.edu/EMS/Music/tech_background/TE-14/teces_14.html <-lots to read if you have time.

What are you doing exactly in this room, recording? You have neighbours that will care or do you just want the room to sound good?

^^^ Hey, yes this is Dave.
thanks for the site though.. looking at it now. Its not for recording purposes. I just don't want any complaints when I get the new equipment and I know i will

Ummm Im getting very loud speakers soon and a bassbin. The speakers I have now are already loud enough for someone to clearly hear the music outside the house. My neighbourhood is quiet and my neighbour told me that she can sometimes just barely hear it in her room. Im just fortunate that she likes the music. But alot of older people live in my neighbourhood and the new sound thats comming in the room will be MUCH LOUDER. So I just want to isolate the sound as much as possible. But I asked around last night at absinthe and found a store in hamilton that sells the foam.

Are you partying in the room or mixing/making beats? Both even.

Even with this foam you speak of, I'd still be wary of the noise complaints.
Especially with thumping low end.

Keep reading the site.

Dave, bass will be a problem in that room. The highs will be easy compared to the low-end for sure.
