Soul Of Man-Phunkfest-idance post party

Soul of Man dropped down one phat wicked set last night. The creator of Fingerlickin' records dropped down some new gems on the crowd and mixed it up with some wicked funky house. His programming was on point and he even dropped some exclusive dubplates (that prince track was sick). Soul of Man had serious soul with him last night and the crowd ate ever ounce of it up. I was quite tired after spending 10 hours at Idance (most of it trying to keep up with Czech's drinking)so I was wondering if I was going to be awake enough to play from 4-5am. But, Soul of Man woke me up with his fresh beats and unique style.
There appeared to be an extra special vibe in the place last night, Phunkfest III was beyond my expectations.

First off I would like to give the promoters respect for throwing yet another quality event. Soul of Man was amazing the programming was some of the best I have ever heard from any stlye dj. The track selection seem to fit the progression of the night perfectly, and the mixing was impecable. I have to say it seemed almost everyone was feeling the vibe except for a few people who have no idea what it really is. All things aside wicked event and I look forward to the next Pure Funk. Respect to all the dj's everyone played at there best.

wikkid party!! i only managed to catch the last 15 minutes of czech's set at iDance, so i was in need of some breakz. well, i suppose that is usually true, regardless of the circumstances...

Soul of Man was awesome, as were all the sets i heard in the main room. i luv jungle without an mc(as i think someone said in the last purephunk review thread), and i found my jungle groove for a bit in the basement.

Good crowd, good vibe, and the music was sick. i was too tired for much serious dancing, but i got a few steps out of my legs... i'll be back for the next purephunk/phunkfest.

yet another long weekend, yet another awesome breaks party at system.

thanks to the purephunk crew and the breakfest crew for bringing us such a stellar event.

i had a total 'day of fun' on sunday...brunch, then idance, then dinner, then a wee little nap (SOO good tho

)and then phunkfest! what a day!!

didn't think i was gonna get into it as i was really tired but soul of man saved me!! usually i love my breaks full of funk, but the set surprised and energized me! and can i just say that when prince's song 'kiss' was dropped, andrea and i nearly lost it on the dancefloor. my head nearly exploded from excitement while dancing!!!!

thanks to kevin and andrea for a great day of fun! *muah* to you both!

To be honest, I was a little worried that attendance wouldn't be so hot at this party because everyone I talked to at iDance had plans to go to Summer's End. When I got to system at 11:30 or so, I was pleasantly surprised by the number of people there. It was packed by midnight!

It's great to see that more people in Toronto are finally getting into breaks. And it's not hard to see why. Soul of Man was incredible, but I expected nothing less from the owners of my favourite record label of all time, Finger Lickin.

Good music, good people, good times. That's what the breaks scene's all about.

As Flipside so elloquently put it, "Who's better than Toronto? ...Nobody!"

Ehh.. I don't want to be negative or whatever, but honestly I didn't think it was very good. Weird crowd, a really pukey smell in the back, and I thought Soul of a Man was kinda boring. D-Monic's follow-up set sounded much better.

In the interest of full disclosure, I was sort of in a shitty mood when I got there (first waiting outside Summer's End for an hour without getting in, then driving to Mississauga, and then back downtown -- I got to system after last call).

Ok, first of all, getting to a bar after last call is just a recipe for disaster... And plus your mood going into the party has a lot to do with how you'll feel about the party. But everyone's entiteld to their opinion

Soul of Man's set was not for the true nu school junkie (like yourself...). His set was straight-up funky. I found his set to be really entertaining, filled with lots of tracks that have never been played on this side of the Atlantic. But, he spun a little too much house for my liking.

I definitely agree that D-Monic's set was sweet... very bass heavy - more my style.

Oh, and sorry 'bout the pukey smell in the back... my bad

Thank god, i had two wikkid promotion companies, kick ass breakz, and wikkid friends to keep my night of fun in chek! Soul of man was insane-and like everyone has mentioned- 'kiss' got me going hard! His set was more on the funky house side, but so incredibly enjoyable! Dan, way to get the crowd going! u da man! I left around 4 cuz i was dead tired, but i bet the rest of the night was insane. See u at krafty Kutz!

Umm you're probably right about the bad mood = unfair review thing, but just for the record, I am definetly not a nu skool junkie

(I only marginally tolerate nu skool breaks stuff
