solar south??

does anyone have any info on what solar south is and how to establish its direction? I've seached google but haven't found anything that tells me what it is.
i have to install some solar units that must face 'solar south' and have no clue how to find it?
would a gps unit be any help?

the grid of streets of toronto is currently angled 17 degrees counterclockwise from true north...hence, solar south is 17 degrees clockwise from 'south'

Solar North is the True or geographical North, which is different from magnetic north. They are just saying not to use a compass to orient your pannels because that would get you magnetic north but not the solar north. So if you figure out ture north, which shouldn't be hard with a city map that is gridded, you can easily figure out south.
