So How Did You Get Into Hip Hop?

In an attempt to inject some life into this room, tell me how'd you get into hip hop? As for myself, I bascially got into hip hop as a matter of circumstance (I guess you would call it that). My family had just immigrated to Canada in the 80's and we started off living in a poor neighbourhood. Most of my neighbours were black and they introduced me to rap and artists like Micheal Jackson (I know he's not a rap artist, but he was ill back in the day) LL Cool J, RUN DMC, and The Fat Boys. And the rest was history, we eventually moved out of the ghetto, but hip hop had a profound effect on my musical tastes. I mean I eventually came to appreciate other forms of music, but hip hop has always been so appealing to me. Since then I've listened to everything from De La Soul to Ice Cube to The Leaders Of The New School to Biggie Smalls. Despite my long history with hip hop, in now way do I consider myself a historian of hip hop I'm just a fan and lover of great music.

ha^...that was supposed to be in the best album of the year thread.

So I guess I gotta answer now.

Like many others, it was RUN DMC for me.
I remember hearing some of their earlier stuff, but the track that caught me was "Mary, Mary".
I think I was seven or eight years old.
