I arrived at the party at about 12:20 to see a fucking huge ass line going down the block. Much to my surprise though, the wait was only 20 minutes. I've waited twice that in line at System when only 15 people were in front of me. The search was unexpectedly thurough. The even made me take my shoes off.

As soon as I walked through the door I was given drink tickets, so right off the bat I knew this party was going to be good.
biggrin.gif

The lin up for coat check was fucking huge so We decided to try the one in the Guvernment instead. However, when we got to the entrance to the orange room we were stopped by security and told that they weren't letting anyone in yet and we'd have to wait. This was a big mistake. Some fuck nuts decided this would be a good oportunity to start acting like they were 4 years old and start pushing everyone. People were fucking pissed. I was so sure a fight was going to break out over all the pushing. In fact, I was ready to crack some skulls. however, after about 15 minutes security stepped aside and let everyone through. For the rest of the night they didn't stop any one there either, so that was good.
Once the coat was checked I immediatly headed to the bad where got a couple vodka and cranberry's and 3 shots of Vodka. I quickly downed the shots and the drinks then made my way to the dance floor. It was a little weird that all they had to drink was vodka or mixed drinks with vodka, but I guess since smirnoff was sponsoring the party it made sense.

Now on to the music. I caught 30 mintes or so of dave ralph and I thought he was pretty good except for one really bad trainwreck towards the end.

Green Velvet was up next and he to put on a really good show. I saw him at Klip as well and I'm not sure which show was better, but I thought he was still good last night. had me dancing my ass off and that's what matters.

Before I knew it it was 3 o'clock and time for nick warren in the guv. However I was having such a good time in the kool haus that I decided to stay for a little while, but first I'd go take a piss. I descovered that if you went to the washroom in the orange room, there was absolutely no wait. SO I took my piss and headed back into the kool haus to where my buddy was. To bad the bastard left. So there I was all alone.
But hey, Dan was on and he wwas kickin it hard so picked a spot near where I saw my friend last and started dancing. Dan fucking rocked it. I've only seen him play a couple of times and the last time was 2 years ago. He's better than I remeber. I didn't notice a single mistake in the time I was there.

At about 4 I decided it was time to leave that room and go see Nick Warren. He was after all my main reason for being there.
Guvernment was packed. Not much room to move anywhere. I finally found a nice spot with plenty of room right near the middle of the dance floor. found my friends after a few mintes to. What can I saw about Nick Warren... he IS the fucking man! From the second I stepped into the room he had me going off. I really think that his CD's don't do him justice. I've seen him play 3 times now, twice in Toronto and once in NYC, and each time he was incredible. He really should record a live CD. Two bad he was only on for 2 hours and I only got to see an hour of it. I hate it when Great DJ's only get a couple of hours to do their thing. IMO I'd much rather see them play at least 4 hours. It's more of an experience that way.

5 o'clock rolled around and we decided to take off. all in all a great night. I People were fairly friendly. Kool haus looked great. The visuals were great the go-go dancers were a nice touch to.
My only complaint is thatsecurity was somewhat unorganized in the early parts of the night. Other than that I had a great time.

Good to see metal morphisis again. It's great to have you back and thanks for the present I really enjoyed it

I feel brain dead this morning, so I'll just make this short and sweet...

The Guv was ridiculous. I have no idea if the party in there was good or not, cause I never stuck around for more than 5 minutes. Simply too crazy in there (bad crazy). The levels of population in the Kool Haus were good. Much more bearable. Busy, but still roomy. Very nice.

The music was indeed good. I'm not a fan of the hard house. I just couldn't dance once Dan was up there. Just couldn't do it... Ultimate frustration! But Dan did sound nice. I found the music a little too loud though. I apologize for screaming in everyone's ears, sometimes I under-estimate how loud I'm talking.

I left at 5:00, and the coat check took me half an hour. It was absolutely ridiculous. Gah!

Ming.

Spot On!!!

I was really craving a big sick assed party, and last night Smirnoff delivered.

We musta got there just in time, because the lineup outside wasn't too long, and we just walked right up to the coatcheck. I'll admit Dazed, my search was pretty tight as well, but I guess that's better then having something bad happen. But what the fuck, do ya think I can stash a gun in my shoe?

Drink tickets = good
No beer = bad
It should be against the law to have a party in Canada without beer. It just doesn't make sense. Maybe it's because of the recent bottle throwing incidents at the NFL games?

Well after doing a few shots and grooving with Dekoze for 45 mins or so(nice set by him fo sure), I headed to the Guv to check it out. It was not too packed in here yet and it was nice and cool. Caught the end of Matt C and Darren Christian. I was ok I guess, just not really getting me going. So I headed back to the Warehouse and caught the last half of Ralph, which was pretty sweet. Then Green Velvet rocked it. Whatever you thought about his music, you'd have to admit that everyone was going pretty crazy in LaLaLand.
biggrin.gif
Brad and I headed for the front, and boogied down. Then DJ Dan Tore the fuckin roof off the place. Allz I can say is HOLY SHIT. What a great set. Stayed pretty close to "the speaker spot" for most of his set, and that was one loud motha. My ears are still ringing.Caught about half an hour of Nick Warren, but it was just waay to packed in there for my liking, so I came back for some more Dan.
Took off around 5 and headed back to Stratford. Thanks Unklespins for driving my car back to Cambridge, so i could savor a sweet and tasty beer. mmmmmm. Grabbed 4 sausage Mc Muffins and went to bed.

Wikked screens, nice lighting(not too dark or stroby)

Loud Loud party.

Best set DJ Dan

Nice to see all of you again!

Holy CRAP !!! That party was well worth $25.00. Production, lighting and decore was just simply excellent. Guv and Kool Haus was tranformed into a totally new club.

1)Got into the line about 12:15am and it looked seriously long, but it well organized and move very quickly. I got into the clubb within' 20mins

2) Got a complimentary drink flyer once you got passed the ticket check point. " Wow, are you for real ?" I asked the chick that was handing them out. Saw my close buddies in line for coat check and got my winter jacket checked within' 30sec and the line was really long.

3)Dave Ralph was on the decks, I didn't like his set at all ... due to the fact it was all progressive. He mixed in afew tracks that was progressive breaks and that cheer me up.

4)Started to drink and soon after I was pretty drunk. LOL At this time Green Velvet was on and it was ok, Kenny Glasgow was MCing to his set and to me ... really ruined it. But I was too drunk at this point to care.

5)Well, at this point of time, the party was ok ... I was happy but dissapointed b/c I didn't get to go into the GUV. DJ Dan came on and wow... I was very suprised. He was kickin' in the phat beats and I was suprised that it was HARD !!! I saw him at Connectedv4 and he stunk the big one. Now I understand why ppl love him. DJ Dan is simple wicked and from one of my most hated DJ before, now have become ... one of my fav DJ.

6) When I left the party .. the first thing that came into my mind was to get the WinterGalactic 2002 preflyer. Went upto the fyler whores and said " OK, where is the WinterGalactic prefyler ? Don't bother given' me anything else, b/c it's useless to me !!! "

The VIBE was amazing all night long. It felt like all the old school party-goers have all united under 1 clubb and for 1 night. Just like back in the days I started. I even saw afew middle school friends I haven't seen in 8 yrs !!! The whole freakin' city was there !!!

The Bads ...
- Didn't get to hear any trance in the Kool Haus tonight.
- It was way to "rammped" packed and it was a fire hazard
- Getting back my winter jacket from coat check ... insanely shitty. * Waited for 30 mins and afew smelly GINO's in front of me to make the matter worse then it was. Coat check should of had more ppl working ... to insure a fast and smooth departure.*

Special thanks goes to ...

Rebecca, Will (Mr.Furious AKA Man Whore) Jodi, Denver, Daniel, Karen, Dan, Thuy, Dave, Yoshi, Roy, Ian,Dan * Happy Birthday Massive* (Zirca),Melia,Allie and the others which I've met the first time and forgotten their names ... due to the fact I was too drunk and the system was Kickin' LOUD.
Special thanks to all of you for making the night was it was ... very BAD ASS indeed !!!

GoodNight Everyone

This was by far the BEST party this year.
(With the exception of wintergalactic maybe - which i didn't attend)
If you missed it i'm sorry for ya.

I thought the crowd was great...really.
I didn't notice any attitude from anyone.
and i thought the vibe was pretty good too, and there was enough room to dance.

I didn't really leave the koolhaus all night.
dave ralph: he was ok, i wasn't really into his set at all actually. But he wasn't bad.

Green Velvet: caught the beginning of his set. He seemed good i guess, i wasn't there for long, had to jump to the orange room for a break.

DJ Dan: OH MY GOD. That pretty much sums it up. I've seen him a few times this year and he was ok. But last night he went over and above his performance at connected 2000. WOW! I can't get over it. He dropped amazing tracks, great flow, the crowd was all over it - it's all about the big party
smile.gif

Decided to leave after Paul Walker got on the decks, and headed for the coat check line in the government.

Mark Oliver: He was ok too. I think he also dropped la-la-land and it was a great way to leave the club. He would fade out when the "la-la-land" vocal came on, and the crowd would sing it...nice.

All in all I had an amazing night. Craving a big party and Smirnoff delivered.

One note about Smirnoff, advertising is advertising. We're not kids, we KNOW they are trying to sell themselves to us. I didn't really care that much that there was only Smirnoff at the bar, but I did find the "subliminal" ads on the video screens disturbing. That was going a bit far. Plaster your logo all over the walls, only serve your product...fine. But flashing your logo for a second on the video screens in the middle of a dj set - well it just really disturbed me. But i'm not naive, so i guess it didn't affect me that much. Regardless, I am grateful for the big party they provided, despite their ad campaign.

I would have easily paid $40 for this party and not regretted it. Any more money than that and I probably would have been really irritated about the ridiculous lines everywhere. But it was only $25, and it was amazing.

If I had a star system, i'd give it 5 out of 5. Good music, good line-ups, i found security to be friendly, good vibe, nice visuals, great friends = fabulous party. Parties like the Smirnoff one yesterday are the reason that i party...now i just hafta wait until another experience like that comes along. Hope it doesn't take another year and a half.

oh yeah, great to see everyone out

it really made my night to be surrounded by such great people!

I was lookin' so forward to this on.. got there about 11:45....waited in line to get in (expected)....waited in line to get to the guvernment to get to coat check 'cause they wouldn't let us check our coats in Koolhaus...by the time all this standing in line here there and everywhere was done and I was ready to get down it was 1:30...I was stressed to say the least...

Dave Ralph - excellent set, droppin' the odd breaks track was a nice touch...his buddy Oakenfold must be rubbin' off on him
biggrin.gif

Missed Tall Paul as I was in some sort of line somewhere...

John Kelly - Set of the night WOAD!!

Nick Warren - Not Bad...was wanting more but by this time I was tired grumpy n' cranky...

DJ Dan - The usual Hard House Funk..He didn't dissapoint!!

Green Velvet - Caught him for a little bit..thought the Keyboard Guitar was a bit cheesy...

Both venues were decorated nicely and the Visuals were brilliant...lots a money spent here..funny seeing the old smirnoff execs in suits in the orange room at the start of the night..can you say sore thumb...I give this one a 7/10...oh how i wanted it to be a 10.

I don't know how I fooled myself into thinking I would have a good time at something like this. At times I felt like I was in my own personal hell. What a horrible night, hated the people, most of the music, the high/drunk people. bad bad bad. What a waste of a night. The coat check and line out side was ludicrous...everything about this night was wrong.

Did anyone notice that MASSIVE train wreck for the last mix of dave ralph's set? it was the collision of beats heard around the world!

I don't actually think Dave was spinning when this happened. It was while they were setting up for Green Velvet, and I'm pretty sure it was either a fade into some background music until the finished setting up, or some sound guy throwing down another record and just sliding the cross fader across cuz when it happened there was no DJ on stage... That and the fact that after the trainwreck into a new song, it faded back into the last track that Dave dropped. It was weird though...

it was priceless liz!! i got to make the intro!

all in all i had a fucking hilarious nite...but only because of the company i was with and the adventures we got ourselves into....much respect to Andrea and Stevie for endless hilarity last nite!! soo much stuff to giggle at last nite!!!

but there were many parts of the evening that frustrated me:
1)my HORRIBLE hangover from my work party the night before, crippled me and prevented me from staying up late and seeing my FAVE...dj dan
2)the crowdedness...holy god. talk about clausterphobia at times
3)the over the top marketing. ENOUGH already smirnoff...we know we are your target market, but i'm so damn sick of the smirnoff logo!!! between last ntie and the fashion awards, i'm up to my ears in smirnoff ice....as mofo said 'give me a beer!!!!' and yes, my stupid stupid 'flyer/advertisement' on a rope stayed on for about 2 minutes. did everyone not realize that they were instanlty turned into a walking ad???

still i managed to dance my ass off for a bit and laugh my ass off for alot of the nite.
thanks to Tim for the VIP passes and to andrea and stevie for the great company!!

Soooo...where to begin?

Had a great time at Hye's "Martini Madness" before heading out to this event...thanks again, Helen
smile.gif

Deko-ze, as always, laid down a solid set, with my favorite bit being when he went from Smoke Machine into the "Ubik" version of Hide U...soooo good
biggrin.gif

Enjoyed Dave Ralph as well, didn't see much of Tall Paul or John Kelly, liked Green Velvet, and DJ Dan rokked the muthafucka!

Great music, great friends=happy Bias

So true. Not that it matters, but you can always tell who is new to partying by watching reactions during a trainwreck. Newbies think its part of the track...

Oh, and I guess I will write a review while I'm here.

Good night. Not my fave by a long shot. Dekoze was great for the 10 minutes I heard him on my 45 minute journey to check my coat in Guvernment
rolleyes.gif
.
Dave Ralph, was ok, good background music, but not my bag for dancing.
As for Green Velvet, it was my first time hearing him live, and I was far from impressed. It could have had something to do with the fact we were right by the speaker, but most of his tracks seemed like noise, with a kick drum with his filtered voice over top. Don't get me wrong, he put on a good show, but musically, it just didn't do it for me.

And then came Dan. Set of the night by far. Kicked my ass. Great dirty, dirty, hard house with big fat dirty, dirty basslines. Only complaint was that it was just too damn loud. I could have moved from the speaker I guess, but just too many friendly faces to want to be anywhere else...

It was great to see so many Tribers out. That was the highlight of my night. It was great partying with everyone. Too many people to name.

Thanks to the Nocturnal Crew and friends for the passes and a great pre-party at the Old Spaghetti factory.

I think that was our fault-Svet, JO, Finch
We were pretty much the first ones there and we went over there to chill for a bit and one by one people walked past us and ended up staying.
Plus you had to get past us to get to the Guv coat check so everyone came by eventually.
After 2 hours of that it became a great space because there was room to dance.
We had earplugs in so it wasn't to bad for us.
