smelly co-workers

They just did this huge department shift and everyone at my office has moved their computers to a new desk. Unfortunately I now sit beside this girl who has major Body odor, and the worst part is the damn air vent keeps blowing the smell over to my desk. I'm sure all she needs to do is just switch to a stronger deodarant and the problem will be solved but how do I tell her this tactfully? I don't know her very well and I don't want to create any animosity but considering that I'll probably be sitting beside her for a while, I HAVE to say something.....any ideas?

whether or not you like your managment, go see them!
there should be a department in your office to deal with things like this.. it definately should not be up to you to do it, especially if you don't feel comfortable telling her something like that.

i had to face a problem like this a few months ago.. my situation was worse because i had to get in a car with a horribly smelly boss and take a 4 hour trip with him.. when i contacted his manager (the v.p. of the company), she told me that she was well aware of his stink and she promptly dealt with the problem.

Be nice and blunt ... something like this will work ... I've used this example before to help someone out with the same problem ... except I think it was with bad breath

You: Hey how's it going today?

BO Girl: Oh I'm okay, a little sleepy, but okay

You: This weather is really messed up eh, I was getting used to the warm ... and now it's getting cold out

BO Girl: Yea, but waht can you do ... it is Canada after all

You: Yea I love warm weather. But do you know what I love better than warm weather?

BO Girl: No what?

You: Fresh smelling armpits. Sometimes you need to make sure they are extra clean in the morning. Then make sure you're using an appropriate deoderant. You to make sure you don't stink all day

BO Girl - Looks Confused

You: That's what I thought. Give it some thought

PROBLEM SOLVED!

imagine being called into your boss' office and told that you're level of personal hygiene does not meet the company's standard?

harsh.

i'm not saying that you shouldn't do it though. stinky people are gross.

ugh - sick! :(
you poor thing - I have a low tolerance for stank odor - I can't hide my disgust either!.

I'd magic mushroom her.

seriously! you can't live like that.

go on a stealth mission one day - plant a few under her desk.
she'll get the picture!

Bad personal hygiene is the worst!!

What I would do is leave an anonymous tactful letter on her desk, saying that you do not want to offend her or make a big issue over this or to make her feel uncomfortable but that she seems to have a very strong body odour and can she please do something about it.

In one of my classes in college we discussed this happening in the work place and how to tactfully go about it, and that was how to. If she does not take action after that, then the manager or supervisor needs to discuss it wth her.

whoot

You could always send a anonymous e-mail telling her she has BO and to wear some @$%^ stronger deodorant. Then at least she would be aware of her stinkyness but she wouldn't know who it was who sent the e-mail.

bwaha, luckily my office is nice and secluded and away from the stinky office peeps

This site rocks! Yes, it's definitely the cowardly way out but worth a shot, on the other hand if I send her one of these anonymous emails, she may not take it seriously and the problem will not be solved.

In that case it would have to be seriously out of hand for other people to be smelling what's happening down there....nasty

Don't get me started on this subject!

I work with two people who don't know how to freakin' take care of themselves properly.

One of them has a skin disease that she doesn't properly treat, lives in squaller and eats candy like a little freakin' kid. She's real big too. So anything she does makes her sweat...which adds to the problem. Last fall most of the employees at my job complained to our boss about the stench. It took three(3!) private talkings to and one group discussion to get this girl to fuckin realise there was a problem and that maybe she should do something about it! I'm just worried about the smell coming back with the hot weather. I'm not 'worried' actually. I'm scared. So very, very scared...

The other guy is a freak. Totally meth-head bodybuilder type guy. His problem is that he just runs EVERYWHERE! He's got to go the washroom....he runs. He's got to get an apple from his locker...he runs. This guy is TOTALLY, TOTALLY clueless to the fact that he reeks. I think that everyone is afraid to let him know about it directly for fear that they will get the beats. Dude's got problems.

Uhh....it's my day off. I don't want to think about this any more.

At least you've learned that your situation isn't as bad as mine.

I need a beer.

I have a coworker who also has a really bad odour from time to time. At first, I thought she was ill was it's still here a year later.

Your coworker COULD be ill or something.
