Dark Matter and Killjoys i am both aware of and caught up on.

While they are entertainment....and by that i mean, there is a lot of fluff, music montages and humor that is put in to appease the audience, not because it adds anything to the shows. I still watch it, there is something about them ... guilty .....

The Expanse is turning into a proper BSG quality replacement.

Fucking Bonkers.

Are you opposed to BSG?

I loved the miniseries that opened it.

Fell out of love over the course of season 1 and lower with each season. For some reason I was annoyed by the presence of the actress who played Starbuck in almost every scene.

I also think the ending left a bad taste in my mouth, so its possible the ending of it really tarnished my retrospective view of the whole series.

I guess thematically it wasn't as "up my alley" as The Expanse too.

I loved the Iraqi insurgency season, and the series in general, but also was not happy with the ending. I haven't watched any of The Expanse yet. Think a ten year old could watch it? I need to nerd out on something new with spawn.

Couldn't get into BSG. Just wasn't my steeze. Love the Expanse though, not the right person to ask if it's okay for a 10 year old (although I don't see why not either)

Funny though, one of my sparring partners at Muay Thai was a regular on BSG (not a main character but recurring role nonetheless). I keep forgetting which character he played. I'll ask next time

whaaaaattttt! I need to know derek!

At this point the only things that disqualify this kid from watching stuff is lots of gore or lots of sex. I'm guessing there are neither in this show?

Yeah the Expanse was been pretty awesome so far this season. Almost every episode has had some good holy shit moments. :)

@janiecakes depends on how comfortable you are with the kid seeing blood and sex scenes. There have been some pretty gruesome deaths and the people becoming infected on the station could give a kid nightmares of zombie like people. I can't recall if the sex scenes had nudity but they have shown side profiles and asses.

Show updates for shows maybe under your radar, since no one ever really comments on them when I've mentioned them and a few of these are back now:

The Path - I think im not a Dancy fan. That said, Season 2 after a start that had me thinking about dropping it from the rotation in the first few eps - i think - has really come into its own across the middle and back half of the season. As always, the sound design and score is impressive, and some of my fave on television. Not quite as sparse as it got in the sound department in season 2. Arcs are more interesting and pace is better. Dialogue sharper. If you weren't so hot on it in season 1 its worth a look in season 2! Hey its a cult classic! :)

Outsiders - season 2 is here and its one of my fave things. Its better on all counts and it was already "very good" last year. The lead sherriff is great and things move along at a good clip from the start. Almost every thread they have going on is engaging. I like the score and sound in The Path but Outsiders is just as good if not better this year! Bit of a sleeper show no one else I know has ever watched - season 2 is proving it to be earning a deserving place alongside fare like Justified and Sons of Anarchy, speaking of which, the actor who played Ope is in a bit of a tour de force in a pretty great prison sub plot this year.

The Review with Forrest Macneil - back for its third and final season, one of my fave comedy shows and characters on tv came back as a huge surprise last night. Episode 1 was very strong and hilarious. gonna miss this one when it ends

Ok so updates a little further into everything as multiple shows I am watching are closing in on final episodes:

The Expanse - This was an exhilirating, well paced, bumped up production quality version of the show that bodes well for the handover to netflix. I am just jazzed every week and totally thrilled with the show this year. As we get to final episodes I think producers have really given their best shot at delivering the kind of quality to get this show pulling numbers to a place many people thought they "should be".

After a crazy work week where I couldn't watch much I had a normalish night last night and the ability to just do a ton of old-man-back maintenance in front of the TV - watched The Path, The Americans and Outsiders.

Was clear that there was an escalating element of interest and quality as we went from show to show. I still have a soft spot for The Path, its way better than season 1 and really cool shit is happening in season 2 - I'm liking the actors. But there's just not as much galvanizing interest as there is in The Americans, which I think is showing its strength well across its first four episodes, everyone is awesome - the story is showing much more of Russia which is GREAT - and it has this slightly slowed down pace which I think is just a mark of assurance on the part of the producers. Like, its kind of quiet and not so flashy - but this is what lets you appreciate all the subtle notes they hit. Its really excellent again this year for sure. Ok this one is only 4 episodes in but everything else in this post is in ep 10 or 11 of 13 ep seasons.

Outsiders just keeps getting better. Of the three shows we watched last night this one had us immersed quicker and more rapt all episode. Every subplot is wicked. When one subsides a bit another picks up and goes somewhere really cool. Many of the actors are ones we don't see elsewhere. Pacing is just amazing - but something about the cinematography and sound has jumped up a notch or three this year - really getting into "great" territory maybe, if not there already real soon. What a sleeper show - but just had to recognize that when watched with other shows its quality just really stood out last night! It is building to an excellent end to the season and I can't wait to see what happens and more of these great performances.
